We could smell the aroma of freshly baked bread as soon as we parked the car in San Francisco. We headed straight to Boudin's for lunch. Crab cake sandwich was just okay, but chill in the bread bowl was hearty and delicious. Long lines, but it moves quickly. A little pricy for what you get, but we definitely recommend!

The three of us shared a great appetizer of dungeness crab/artichokes with toasted sourdough bread. Delicious! We had the Clam Chowder in a bread bowl, that too was excellent - It was a Friday. This place is busy, but it's worth the wait, eat at the cafe upstairs, quieter, more enjoyable with excellent views.

Some people come to Northern California for wine, I come for the sourdough. This is a great place for the kids and a good breakfast or lunch. When my son was 7, he saw the bread makers in the window make a turtle. We bought one for him to eat and now that he is 13, guess what... we went... More

We eat in the restaurant versus the café, the food is the same. In the future, I would stay in the café. The prices in the restaurant are 2x the prices in the café. We did enjoy the view from the second level. Paying $64 for lunch (soup in a bread bowl & a couple drinks) is unreasonable, even on... More

I had the clam chowder with a small salad. Good, but nothing special, had better elsewhere. I'd appreciate if such a tourist spot would also cater wifi for customers.

Baked sourdough breads made fresh daily, but also a wonderful store to purchase sauces, soup mixes, baking utensils, & many other goodies every kitchen requires. If your kitchen doesn't require it, your appetite surely does! Boudin also does mail order purchases too. So if you don't need it maybe someone you know could use a gift item. Either way, it's... Went here once and to the restaurant in Pier 39 once. Both times, I had the grilled cheese and bacon half sandwich which was delicious, once with the Caesar salad and once with the tomato soup. I would recommend the soup, rather than the salad. You need to specify the soup in a regular bowl or you will get it... More

To be quite frank only popped in for a coffee and would not rush back for this purpose. Very average.

This is a great place to stop for a bite to eat. The tomato soup and clam chowder are wonderful. Take a moment and watch the bakers making the bread and take in the wonderful scent of sour dough. Highly recommend this San Francisco experience! Well worth the money and time!

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
