We live in interesting times and the Beuna Vista is doing a great job of adapting/coping. I went in yesterday to get one of their famous Irish Coffees and they have the social distancing thing down pat - one entrance, marks on the floor, get...your coffee, out the exit door. Very regimented, but the bartender still managed to engage us in conversation. And after we exited, we had the option of their outdoor seating or taking our Irish Coffee over to the park. Coffee in the Park was great.
Why not five circles? a) the paper cup is not the classic Buena Vista glass and b) I have an Irish friend that makes a better Irish Coffee.More
I first want to express that I do not often give negative reviews. We spent $70 on one lobster roll and two Irish coffees (and tip). There was a miscommunication at the register, as we were doing take out, and a tuna melt was never...ordered and was never charged. No big deal except a server came out basically blaming us for not ordering the melt. We had already waited 20 minutes for one sandwich, and to be accosted on the sidewalk was unsettling. We would have been more than happy to pay for the sandwich and wait longer if the server had come out, explained the miscommunication, and gave us our options. Instead we were made to feel like we were trying to comp a free sandwich and to be frank it was embarrassing to be yelled at in front of strangers. I will not be bringing any out of town guests back because 1. It seems like a lot of money for what we received, and 2. I like to enjoy the company of the people around me and getting yelled at on the street isn’t my cup of tea. Perhaps some sensitivity training for staff on how to communicate effectively would be a good step forward.More
We were visiting San Francisco and looking for somewhere to go for brunch. We found an online recommendation for this place and decided to check it out since we wanted to be in that area of town and explore after brunch. From what we read,...the evenings can be very busy but on our Monday morning brunch we walked in and were sat at a table right away. The seating was shared so we met two other travelers enjoying their breakfast which was fun. We had a nice view of the bay from and the food was great. I got an eggs benedict and it was so good. I loved the historic feeling inside and the Irish Coffee was delish! When we were there a tour group walked in and it looked like the staff had been expecting them. There were 12 glasses lined up and the bartender put on a show making all the Irish Coffees at once! Was really fun to watch. I would absolutely recommend this place!More
A must for a visitor looking for authentic SF culture. This spot boasts the invention of the Irish coffee and watching the bartenders create multiple cups at a time without looking at what they are doing is a sight to be seen.
Talk about awesome breakfast food and location and let’s throw in great service provided by Trevor! That’s what this place is all about! We frequent SFO and take the cable cars all the time and we knew of this place however, it was recommended by...our hotel and we just regret not coming here all these years! Love their crab 🦀 dish, their elusive elixir and everything that landed on our table. The view from the table was a plus too! Good experience, we will be back. Thank you.More
To watch the barista while they make the Irish coffee is one thing but the taste is oh, so grand! I recently learned they use an Irish whisky called Tullamore Dew when making the drinks because of its sweet taste (which does not disappoint). I...think all the baristas have 20 or more years at only the Buena Vista, which opened in 1916. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. Our group ordered the potato skins and the shrimp louie, then rueben sandwiches and fish and chips. All were great tasting.More
After seeing a feature on TV about the Buena Vista I thought we needed to stop in the next time we were in San Francisco. What a cool & classic part of the city. The famous Irish coffees were perfect, and I don’t like whiskey!...But these were great. We sat at the bar & then grabbed a table for lunch. There are no reservations, just grab a table and expect to share it with others. We were joined by another couple and had a great time talking to them. The food was very good and so was the experience!More
