We spent a day in San Francisco and wanted to stop for a break to get a cold drink and some appetizers. Our server was not too pleasant and that made us uncomfortable. Even though this place was expensive, we may have stayed for an actual lunch but his attitude made us just want to go. He seemed annoyed at having to deal with customers. We left him a good tip anyway but if I ever found myself near there again, I might just keep walking.

Authentic Chinese restaurant. Popular with locals and tourists. Food fresh and good quality. Staff also friendly. Closes quite early I’m the evening but we’ll worth a visit.

On a recent trip to San Francisco, we re-visited this restaurant which we had enjoyed as newlyweds 52 years ago. The atmosphere is still very pleasant, with Chinese lanterns and cozy, private booths (reservations required when they are busy). The menu is on the high side of moderate, with the $20.95/person lunch or dinner offering tea, egg roll, excellent fried rice, and traditional Cantonese chicken or beef with plenty of vegetables and skimpy portions of meat. For $23.95/person, or more than 2 people, you can get spicier entrees. Service was friendly and helpful.

We looked forward to getting lunch somewhere in Chinatown, and we went in eagerly anticipating to be wowed. You would assume the Chinese food in such an authentic Chinatown would be fantastic. You'd be wrong. First, it took a long time to be seated, and even longer for someone to come over. It seems they only had a few workers serving the entire floor. That made for really poor service. I get that everyone has staff shortages, so I exercised patience, thinking the food would make up for it. Sigh. It did NOT. The food was average at best. I've had a LOT of Chinese food in my life (it's one of my favorite cuisines), and there was nothing exceptional. The flavor was bland. There wasn't a ton of food. We spent $70 on lunch for 3 people (& that was splitting only 2 entrées with egg rolls & drinks; we weren't super-hungry, but wanted a meal in Chinatown). I wouldn't have minded dropping $70 on lunch at all if it wasn't so ordinary. My son remarked that the food at our local Chinese restaurant back home is better. That tells you all you need to know. Don't waste your time here! There MUST be better options nearby!!!

I understand business is different now with COVID, but if this what they are going to put out, I would consider just focusing on deliveries. Rude person seats us at a dirty table outside in the street. Cashew chicken was cold and flavorless. Chicken fried rice was ok. No mustard, no checking up on us. The banging from the steel drums down the street was incessant.

I will never go to Far East again. The food was very mediocre, not much different from what a Chinese fast food company would serve, and with less flavor. $24 for a pretty modest-sized plate of food made mostly with sugar and food coloring was an insult. It’s an interesting room, but featured a tall yellow construction scaffold and small tv at one end which didn’t fit into the design at all. It felt like they had no respect for their customers, which may be what they intended to communicate. Service was gruff, and the waiter claimed to speak very little English, so could not answer questions. All in all a pretty bad experience.

We were first here at this fine establishment in 1984 and were anxious to return. We are glad we did because it was as good as we remembered. I started with the minced chicken and corn soup and it was outstanding. We shared spring rolls, General Chou's Chicken, BBQ pork fried rice and Beef with vegetables and they were great! Our service was good and it provided a nice place to dine after exploring Chinatown.

We have got a very bad service and no tasty food. The waiter appears to not understand and speak English. On top of that, we've got issues on the bill!

From the moment we arrived the manager and the staff were welcoming and friendly. The menu choices were excellent and the food was delicious. The restaurant has a great atmosphere surrounded by long standing Chinese paintings.

Wandered in here after shopping and had a decent meal. Kinda pricey for Chinese food and not really any better than what we get at home. Food was huge, but rather pedestrian. Service was OK until a "busload" of tourists came in, then the attention was focused on the party of about 30.

We were walking in Chinatown and as it was late we ended up here and were disappointed Service was poor! The waiter simply stood next to our table and stared at us as we were looking thru the menu Food wasn’t that good: tiny pieces of chicken or pork and not too tasty

You can’t go wrong with a 99 year old restaurant. We shared the dinner for two- lots of food. The spring rolls were crispy, the egg flower soup hot and delicious, beef and broccoli tender and tasty, almond chicken mmmmm, fried rice was okay. Service was prompt. A good sign was the number of Asians eating there and locals as well.

Chinatown
As the oldest in North America, San Francisco's Chinatown is an exotic experience. A unique neighborhood decorated with colorful shops, historic streetlights, hanging lanterns, and pagoda roofs awaits behind the stone-carved dragon gates. Feast on dim sum at the tea houses, or meet the locals who gather at historic Portsmouth Square to play chess or practice Tai Chi. Fish markets, produce stands, tourist shops, jewelry stores, fortune tellers, temples and restaurants come together to create a world unto itself in this historic neighborhood.
