Wish we'd read the reviews but we didn't. Big mistake. There was a very strange smell in this restaurant. The Devilled Eggs were recommended as a tapas but they were bland & flavorless. Had better at every house party I ever attended in the 70's. We ordered Paella which seemed a very fake version. Flavorless rice with stuff in it... More

Came here on a late Friday night and found the place about half full -- though still pretty loud. Quite an extensive beer and food list. I ordered the panda bear ale, terrific with notes of vanilla and chocolate nibs -- dying to get it again but it's brewed in house. Friend had a local CA Sauvignon blanc. We ordered... More

Had a quick 2-night business trip to San Fran and stayed in one of the larger chain hotels downtown after taking the BART up from SFO. I was looking for a late night "beverage" and some light appetizers, found the Thirsty Bear on the Beer Advocate app and chose it over a couple of other places in similar proximity -... More

just stopped in for beer, not food so if you are looking for info on the food, try other review I tried 3 beers and kinda liked the one I settled on, didn't have a 2nd glass; maybe it is only my taste but lately there are SO MANY places brewing their own beer and usually I really like them... Good location as it is close to Moscone center. Service was bad. We wanted to sit in one area that had a lot of open tables but they couldn't decide if they want to let us sit there or not. Finally we just sat there and they served us anyway. Food choices are limited.

We went for lunch. My hamburger was good and even the fried calamari. Very good the beer on draft they produce. Dome colleagues had paella and was not bad but even not the best one. Nice location. A good place for a quick lunch...

... by the quality of food and beer in a place that was so huge and looked like another faux brew pub gastroenterology trap. Loved my dark ipa and the tuna appetizer and deviled egg I had was really nice. Place was hopping with a convention in town but I was seated promptly and service was quick and polite

I was there for dinner with a party of 5 with a pre-reservation, they would not sit us until party was complete ?! place was packed due to convention right beside it but still that was odd having made the reservation way in advance .. .plus there was no place at the bar for the meantime ... anyways, food was... Great place to hit up after a long day at the office. The food is good. Love the ceviche, empanadas and their burgers. Oh, the baby ribs are yummy. Good beer selection and the staff is attentive and quick to serve. I've been there three times now and looking forward to the next visit.

If supporting organic is important to you, try something from their CCOF - California Certified Organic Farmers - menu. I cruised the beer list and found a few IPAs that worth the time spent there. While there, a soccer match was on TV. The bartenders were distracted, so they were noticeably slow in taking the order and providing the beer.... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
