Reservations are a must, Rome inspired menu, food is delicious, service good, sit in the window seat. Street parking is a challenge. Lorenzo is the Rome born, colorful owner.

Great neighborhood dining location you don't want to miss. Lorenzo the Chef and Owner is hands on and passionate about the diners experience. So awesome - food is best ever. Venue is so intimate. Highly recommend!

Thought my grandmother made the best Italian ever, with me coming in second. Boy was I wrong. This place has it all. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Great food. Good wines. If I were ever to come back to San Francisco (highly unlikely due to the rest of the trip) Allegro Romano would be the reason why.

The food here was ok, very few vegetarian options and really heavy mains. Our experience overall was fine until the owner behaved extremely rudely to my group. We were celebrating a friend's birthday, her parents had traveled over from Ireland especially for the occasion. At the end of the night we gave Lorenzo four credit cards to split the bill,... More

We had the great good fortune of spending the evening dining at this cozy restaurant earlier in the week. Chef Lorenzo selected appetizers for our group of 7. Everything was outstanding: the asparagus was my favorite. And the beets. And the meatballs!! And...!!! For dinner I had the ravioli with truffles. Perfecto. I cleaned my plate, mom! Deserts were equally... More

The host was very rude. He appeared to be waiting for important guests to arrive and really could not seem to give us the time of day. In normal circumstances this would be tolerable but since I have food allergies it was an issue. I asked to speak to the chef about them - he never appeared. I attempted to... More

The food was excellent. The staff was delightful. Small cozy place, nice menu, very attentive owner who was frequently visiting tables to make sure everything was to our satisfaction.

Food is entirely average to be kind, starter (Parma ham with burata) was ok but relatively small. Main dish - tagliatelle with boar ragu was dreadful, minimal meat swimming in tomato sauce which tasted like coming straight out of the can... The place was recommended by a friend but turned out to be a disappointing eco experience

If you are looking for an Italian restaurant in the area this is definitely the right choice. It is a small friendly Italian restaurant serving excellent authentic Italian food. The pasta was delicious with the right amount of sauce, the adequate size and al dente pasta. All the dishes ordered on my table( we were a party of 8) were... More

The four of us had a great meal in this small neighborhood restaurant on Russian Hill. One of the specialties here is truffles. We had a risotto appetizer with truffles which was excellent. I had gnocchi with a foie gras truffle sauce - very rich and flavorful. Others enjoyed their steak and veal scallopini. Wonderful ambience and service. Highly recommended.

Staying in Russian Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Russian Hill
Russian Hill has evolved into a chic residential neighborhood with outstanding views from every corner. Combined with several great cafes, restaurants, antique shops and boutiques, it’s easy to see why any visitor would gladly leave their heart in San Francisco. Cars line up day after day to drive down Lombard Street, the “crookedest” street in the world, and make the slow creep downhill past charming period homes. Polk Street is the main drag in this neighborhood, where you will find trendy bars, cafes and shops populated with locals, but for one of the most charming rides in the city, grab a cable car heading up and down Hyde Street.
