Typical tourists, we were wandering aimlessly after leaving Alamo Square. We literally stumbled upon this place and were very glad we did. Great mid-afternoon sandwiches (after skipping lunch) - good-sized portions, excellent food, friendly service that leaves you alone once you get settled. If I were a local, I would make it a regular spot.

Food is great! I had the grind scramble and it was fantastic. There menu seems like the usual cafe fare, but with some great unique options like chicken sausage and more veggie selection. Cole brew coffee is also amazing.

so you order at the counter and get a number, then they bring you your food. it was close to our hotel, and breakfast was very good. there are a good number of tables. your second cup of coffee cost an extra $.50 but the first cup was only $1.75 so a pretty good deal all around. go there.

My wife and I were exploring SF, and were very pleased to find this lovely cafe. For how busy it was the cooks were very efficient. You get in line and order like a fast food restaurant. Find a seat and wait for quality food!!! The chicken fried steak was amazing the eggs and has Browns were cooked perfectly. The... More

Had breakfast & lunch here when visiting the area. Casual, affordable. Tasty food & pastries. Very "local" type place with lots of locals eating there.

If youre looking for a great breakfast (that will keep you going through lunch) then stop at The Grind just off the corner of Haight and Scott. They make there own corned beef hash (ask them to crisp it up) and Joe's Scram is a delicious ground beef mixed with scrambled eggs and covered with American cheese. Be prepared to... More

Staying in Haight-Ashbury

Neighborhood Profile
Haight-Ashbury
The area surrounding the intersection of Haight and Ashbury streets, “The Haight” still exudes vibes of the 1960s counterculture as a haven for vintage clothes, music, pop posters and body piercing shops. While the Summer of Love ended decades ago, Haight-Ashbury has turned into a melting pot of hippies, hipsters, and professionals. Walking through its streets can still feel like stepping back in time. A must-see neighborhood for most music fans, it’s easy to see why these streets attracted the likes of the Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin. You’ll likely be content in The Haight day or night, just be sure to wear some flowers in your hair.
