Basic diner food dat been around forever. Every San Franciscan has eaten here and I have no real objections.

A great meal at a reasonable price and all with the 50's atmosphere. It even has the table music selector.

We ate here last night, there was enough parking, and service was fast. This Mel's is old and has very tiny bathrooms. I feel it was a bit overpriced but for SF, it was about average. I had the portobello sandwich and a butterscotch milkshake.

On a recent vacation, we spent one morning walking around San Francisco to soak up the atmosphere. By lunchtime, we were particularly hungry having skipped breakfast. We came across this diner and noticed it seemed very popular so decided to try it. Food here was delicious with a good choice at reasonable prices. Staff were friendly and attentive. Would recommend.

Mels is an old fashion diner that specializes in "comfort" food in a fun setting. The food is good, service is quick and you can listen to music of your choice from times gone bye. They have a great selection of songs from different eras in a jute boxes located buy each booth along the walls. We had breakfast there... More

We went in here as we fancied experiencing an American diner. The atmosphere was good and there are juke boxes you can choose songs from at some of the tables. Everything looks very authentic inside. The menu is quite large. My parents had a cheeseburger and the salmon which were both very nice. I had the fried chicken which came... More

Outstanding food and great vibes. If you're in SF near Lombard Street make sure you visit. Very varied menu with great American and healthier choices too. Great service with smile. Jukeboxes at most tables too

Staying in Marina District

Neighborhood Profile
Marina District
Beautiful homes, beautiful people, and a beautiful backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge welcome visitors to the Marina. Originally the location for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (whose remnants can be seen at the Palace of Fine Arts), much of the land was filled and flattened to accommodate a world’s fair. That ample space has given way to a jogger’s paradise at the northern edge of the city. With the picturesque bay setting as its backdrop, it’s no surprise that the area has hosted numerous movie productions. Daytime activities focus on café culture and boutique shopping, while the evenings turn this neighborhood into a party-going hotspot.
