50s themed diner with classic American style dining. The burger was made perfectly and the sweet potato fries were crispy yet tender. A little pricey for burgers but a fun ambience!

Flew into SFO on a rainy day. Stopped into Mel's on Lombard en route to GG Bridge and Napa. Great little diner. Juke box in front. Very busy at lunch. Had the lunch special turkey on rye with cup of chicken noodle soup. Turkey stacked high and tasty. Forgot whether it was $12 or $14? If you like diners and... More

I just LOVE Mel's Drive-In dinner. The atmosphere is great and the staff were really friendly. I loved the whole retro feel. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. My serve was pretty big to 😀. I ordered Mel's Southern Fried Chicken with fries and coleslaw and it was delicious. I had vanilla coke to drink and it came served... More

This is exactly what you would expect for this kind of place. The food was pretty good but a little on the expensive side. The service was pretty good. We were there on a Sunday morning and there were quite a few people there. It was cool seeing the façade that takes you back to the movie American Graffiti.

I was so looking forward to eating here. All started well with our order being taken and a coffee brought to us. There were 2 of us, arrived at 9 am, the place wasn't hectic or too busy. Nice retro feel inside. Ordered food around 9.10 a.m. The waitress who took our order of a breakfast burrito, and scrambled egg,... More

Most of our food was average. The hot turkey sandwich was below average. The strawberry milkshake was really good and the cherry cokes were good too. Parking lot is convenient.

Nice place to have breakfast or lunch. Food average and on the expensive side. Around 16 dollars for a sandwich, a bit expensive. Food was ok, had better. Looks like an old fashioned diner which adds to its charm.

Staying in Marina District

Neighborhood Profile
Marina District
Beautiful homes, beautiful people, and a beautiful backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge welcome visitors to the Marina. Originally the location for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (whose remnants can be seen at the Palace of Fine Arts), much of the land was filled and flattened to accommodate a world’s fair. That ample space has given way to a jogger’s paradise at the northern edge of the city. With the picturesque bay setting as its backdrop, it’s no surprise that the area has hosted numerous movie productions. Daytime activities focus on café culture and boutique shopping, while the evenings turn this neighborhood into a party-going hotspot.
