Great atmosphere for a fun meal. Good service, but a bit overpriced. We came for a late breakfast, and were able to order small meals. Enjoyed the meal and would return.

During a trip to San Francisco to attend a conference, I discovered this restaurant on a walk to the Moscone Convention Center from my hotel near Union Square. I ate breakfast there the next morning. A full breakfast plate (two eggs, bacon, hash browns, toast), coffee and tip was less than $20. That is reasonable for breakfast where I come... More

We had burgers and fries at Mels. It was a nice basic burger and fries- nothing fancy. It was just what we were looking for that day!

Location is not far from where we were staying (about 5 or 6 blocks away), so we always walked here for a bite to eat either in the morning for breakfast or dinner at night. It is best to avoid the peak hours as there is not much room inside to wait so only other option was to wait outside.... More

I'm not fussy about where we eat but out of all the places we have visited over the last 16 days this has been the slowest service. It is a busy place (so have all the other places been though) and the staff are working hard it just takes a long time for anything to happen. We waited around 10-15... More

Beautiful location on Lombard street. It's a pretty restaurant retro 50th. Great service and great selection of food for breakfast. Quite expensive squeezed fresh orange juice. Recommend. Go ahead.

First night staying in this district and we were unfamiliar with local restaurants. Mel's was a short walk from our hotel so we decided to stop. The interior is nostalgic and pretty clean. Service was OK but they were understaffed. Our Waitress did a good job but she was stretched pretty thin as the place was busy. The food is... More

Very extensive menu. We were pleasantly surprised at the broad selection on their menu. The salads were large and could probably be split. Great counter service and extra root beer with a root beer float. Love it.

We stumbled onto this restaurant while trying to find a place for lunch. There are many other restaurants in the area but they were all full so we ended up at this place. The atmosphere is very nice and everything looks like an old-fashioned diner. The service is good and efficient but the food didn’t taste that good. The burger... More

The buttermilk pancakes were great. They didn't bat an eyelid when we cheekily ordered off the kids menu for my 14 yr old son (portions were huge so he didn't mind). Duke box was a great touch. Sit at the counter if you can.

Thank pomfrs

Staying in Marina District

Neighborhood Profile
Marina District
Beautiful homes, beautiful people, and a beautiful backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge welcome visitors to the Marina. Originally the location for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (whose remnants can be seen at the Palace of Fine Arts), much of the land was filled and flattened to accommodate a world’s fair. That ample space has given way to a jogger’s paradise at the northern edge of the city. With the picturesque bay setting as its backdrop, it’s no surprise that the area has hosted numerous movie productions. Daytime activities focus on café culture and boutique shopping, while the evenings turn this neighborhood into a party-going hotspot.
