I have been here twice in three years (not a huge dessert person) and both times they exceeded my expectations. Both times I had the sticky chewy chocolate and it was incredibly smooth, rich, and delicious. Pre-pandemic I had a bunch of samples and the flavors were good but not worth ordering to me (again, NOT an ice cream person). That being said, the sticky chewy chocolate was VERY good. For people who are NOT chocolate fans - the "sticky chewy peanut butter" is actually CHOCOLATE and peanut butter!! My friend ordered this assuming it was JUST PB flavored and was pretty disappointed.

Local homey ice cream parlor with a variety of flavors. It has a 50s vibe and is a good spot for tourists. You order at the counter and then pay. Credit cards accepted. No seating available. They do have kid sizes. I got the Turkish coffee in a cup and asked for hot fudge to be added (95 cents). The employees were nice and efficient.

Cute ice cream shop with lots of choice.
Nice location.
Friendly service.
What is not to like.
Whilst we are visiting for 2 weeks we will make sure we attend a few times to try as many flavours as possible. $5 per scoop is reasonable.

Cones or sundaes, one or two scoops, lots of delicious flavour choices. The store is small and there is nowhere to sit down so we ate or sundaes on the street and admired the steep streets of San Francisco.

Best place for a Mom & Pop ice cream parlor treat before or after the cable car museum. Cute little pizza parlor just down the street also.

We were down by fisherman’s wharf but had been planning to come here the whole trip. It’s a bit of a steep uphill walk to get here if you don’t want to take a car, but it was so worth it. So many fresh, unique flavors and so creamy. The coconut, lychee, banana, sticky chewy chocolate, and coffee flavors were our favorites. We went big and each got a double. I would get this every day if I could. Highly recommend stopping by here.

This is Swensens original shop where it all started. The ice cream is delicious. You need to stop here! It is on the Powell-Hyde cable car route in Russian Hill.

Missed coming here for Ice Cream day but I check this place off my bucket list. Nice corner shoppe with no seating in/outside. I had the Lemon Custard and Turkish Coffee – tasted like regular coffee ice cream, but the Lemon Custard was the star.
All cash here but ice cream is always worth the price.

If you grew up in Campbell going to the Pruneyard for Swensens Ice Cream was a regular treat. Sadly all the South Bay Swensens are gone. But you can still get your sticky chewy chocolate fix while in SF!!!

we stumbled on this (almost literally after climbing Russian Hill) and what a pleasant surprise. Double cone for $5.80 each and such a choice of flavours. Swiss orange chocolate was my favourite.
3 persons serving to keep on top of the queue of eager ice cream eaters. Very enjoyable.

Spent the day walking about the city and passed by Swensen's....it was a warm day and nothing sounded better than a nice cold ice cream cone. Friendly staff and my vanilla/caramel cone was to die for. I had a great walk, but Swensen's put the cherry on top!!!!

Located near Lombard Street, this is the original Swensens outlet. It is tiny and it is expensive. It is also very popular. There is only street parking nearby and there is no seating. Footfall is constant. Swensens takes only cash!

Creamy, cold, double cone with chocolate peanut butter coupled with another exotic chocolate variety piled high on a cone and DIPPED in milk chocolate. Wait in line and get your decadent dessert. Worth the time and the money. The 2nd best ice cream shop on Earth!. Love this place, love San Francisco, the city that knows how>

The ice cream was delicious. I tried the green tea and lychee. We got $5 off with the lucky raffle they do on every 100 customers.

Visited late on a Saturday night. Short wait but well worth it. Traditional cones and cups filled with delicious ice cream. Enjoy!

Russian Hill
Russian Hill has evolved into a chic residential neighborhood with outstanding views from every corner. Combined with several great cafes, restaurants, antique shops and boutiques, it’s easy to see why any visitor would gladly leave their heart in San Francisco. Cars line up day after day to drive down Lombard Street, the “crookedest” street in the world, and make the slow creep downhill past charming period homes. Polk Street is the main drag in this neighborhood, where you will find trendy bars, cafes and shops populated with locals, but for one of the most charming rides in the city, grab a cable car heading up and down Hyde Street.
