A good place in the Marina District for a meal, but not for quiet conversation. An excellent panzanella salad and a fresh burrata plate. The pizzas are wood fired Napolitano style with well thought out toppings. They have a Wine Spectator award for their wine list which is very comprehensive covering Southern Italian wines. The wine novice can ask for... More

Reservations are a must. Were there on Saturday evening. It filled up quickly. Meals were tasty and fresh. Waitress did have to come back to the table to confirm orders, since she forgot. A bit scattered but attentive. Would go back again.

Front half is a wine bar, but at the time was not busy at all. Back half is the restaurant. Superb service!!! Brant the Sommelier is extremely helpful and knowledgeable of their extensive wine list. Our meal was very good. Minor disappointment; did think the vegetables were a little too acidic with vinegar. Restaurant was full during our visit. Agree... More

We had a great meal on our second night in SF. Wood oven pizzas are amazing. I do recommend the grilled corn for starter and chicken meat balls. Unusual but great flavours.

We live nearby in the santa Cruz Mountains and visit The City 3-4 times a year. Recent dinner at A16 established it as one of our "Go To" restaurants on our "short list". The restaurant features wood oven-fired Certified Neapolitan Pizza and other specialties of Campania such as Maccaronara with Ragu Napoletana and house-made Ricotta Salata. We enjoyed two appetizers... More

I have never been disappointed at A16. I usually sit at the chef's counter, and from there you can see what is going on. Especially with pizzas, which are based on a great dough and always well cooked - not too crunchy, not too chewy, just right. A lot of Italian flavors with a bit of creativity made for a... More

We shared a Funghi pizza. Supposed to be a single pizza, but filled up the two of us. Wine, even one glass, was VERY expensive. Since we didn't order much felt like our waiter lost interest in us. also, no salt and pepper on the tables. Our pizza needed just a little touch. But it was still very good. Very... More

My wife and I chose A16 to celebrate our wedding anniversary and the experience did not disappoint. It started with an extremely warm greeting from our server that recognized our anniversary and was incredibly helpful with food/wine suggestions. We started with a wonderful carafe of white wine and the burratta. The burratta is phenomenal and very tasty. For dinner we... More

Went in without reservations. Had a glass of wine at the bar and table was ready. Pizza was nice. Service was good. There is a wait for the bathroom as it is a one person bathroom.

Description
A16 is a restaurant and wine bar bringing the delicious and hospitable traditions of lively Campania to San Francisco. The chic, rustic/modernist venue is named after the motorway that transverses the South of Italy. The restaurant features wood oven-fired Neapolitan Pizza and other specialties of Campania such as Maccaronara with ragu napoletana and house-made ricotta salata. The wine bar serves 40 wines by the glass and half bottle carafe. The list is 60 percent Italian, mostly from the South, and the other 40 percent is New World, celebrating premiere Italian varietals grown in California along with many California wines.

Staying in Marina District

Neighborhood Profile
Marina District
Beautiful homes, beautiful people, and a beautiful backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge welcome visitors to the Marina. Originally the location for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (whose remnants can be seen at the Palace of Fine Arts), much of the land was filled and flattened to accommodate a world’s fair. That ample space has given way to a jogger’s paradise at the northern edge of the city. With the picturesque bay setting as its backdrop, it’s no surprise that the area has hosted numerous movie productions. Daytime activities focus on café culture and boutique shopping, while the evenings turn this neighborhood into a party-going hotspot.
