The best of the best!!! Just wonderful food and service. I had the rabo, my wife the pork medallions and my son the pasta with sea food!!! Amazing. Felt back in Madrid. Service attentive and prompt . Not enough words.

Got here early on a Friday, about 6, because they fill up fast. My first time (tourist). I found it quite noisy as the evening progressed, but not impossibly so. Although this a tapas restaurant ii opted for the paella for two; it was plenty without appetizers or dessert! Very nice. Other diners' dishes looked intriguing. Service is very good!... More

We had a great experience at Zarzuela. A 15-minute walk (mostly uphill, but then, this is San Francisco!) from our Fisherman's Wharf hotel, one could take the Hyde St. cable car directly to the restaurant. At 6 PM on a Tuesday night in January, we were the first ones in the place. I am sure this is not true at... More

I fell in love this past year. From management down to every bite they served me! Zarzuela is a force! One that can only be tamed by indulgence..... Mmmmmm :) Oh, and don't forget to try their sangria!

This quaint restaurant (30'x40') is a favorite of locals who are greeeted with a hug by the manager. Here is the routine: 1) sit down (no reservations, but tables turn fast. Come by 6:30 if you don't want to wait) 2) order Sangria. It comes immediately 3) order Paella. It is a must. It takes half an hour. Order now.... More

We've been going to this restaurant for 19 years, since we moved to San Francisco, and it remains not just one of our favorite places, but one for all our visitors - it's a must! It has and remains a restaurant that showcases delicious food and outstanding service. We've known every waiter for 19 years - what a testament to... More

Our first visit to Zarzuela's was shortly after they opened 20 years ago. It was superb then and its superb now. It wonderful seeing the same gentlemen each time we come. The food is very authentic Spanish. The service is impeccable and the food exquisite.

This was our first dinner of an incredible weekend getaway in San Francisco. The service was impecable and friendly. Arturo is a seasoned and welcoming waiter. He suggested great wines and tapas. We had the Jamón Serrano, the Shishito Peppers, the Gambas al Ajillo, de Pulpo a la Gallega and the Tortilla de Papas. Everything was delicious!! What a great... More

I always loved this place, always my first choice when I'm in San Francisco. You might have to wait a while before you are seated, but totally worth it.

I enjoyed myself. The service was attentive and entertaining and the ambiance is fun. I found the food to be rather basic although the shrimp in garlic/lemon was excellent! I found both "fish specials" to be bland and the fish didn't taste fresh (strong tasting). It could have been an off night. While the place doesn't take reservations, there are... More

Staying in Russian Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Russian Hill
Russian Hill has evolved into a chic residential neighborhood with outstanding views from every corner. Combined with several great cafes, restaurants, antique shops and boutiques, it’s easy to see why any visitor would gladly leave their heart in San Francisco. Cars line up day after day to drive down Lombard Street, the “crookedest” street in the world, and make the slow creep downhill past charming period homes. Polk Street is the main drag in this neighborhood, where you will find trendy bars, cafes and shops populated with locals, but for one of the most charming rides in the city, grab a cable car heading up and down Hyde Street.
