I've been mainly using Rose's for late long-ish breakfasts, which they are very good at. The place has a bright, lovely, welcoming ambience and the food is great. There's a comfortable food bar which is great for me because I'm traveling alone. I'm sitting down on Chestnut right now waiting to meet up with a friend. Maybe we'll have lunch... More

I was on my own in SF for a few days and found Rose's Cafe on another traveler's blog. My waitress was as sweet and helpful as she could be. And the food was great. Not too big but plenty for a day of walking. Coffee was good and she brought me refills often. It is crowded. But since I... More

We stopped at this cafe for brunch on a holiday and the small interior was packed. But we got seated immediately on an outside patio, separated from the sidewalk by potted greenery. Service was quick and efficient, and we liked the food. I ordered a grilled wild salmon cozy with cucumber, watercress, onion, radishes and aioli ($14). The ingredients worked... More

For a little neighborhood eatery Rose's was very good. The decor was charming and the pizza was delicious. So were other appetizers and entrees. Beer/wine also excellent.

Had a special birthday dinner here. Welcoming ambiance, great service (by Lea and other staff), delicious dinner - had pork loin with polenta, husband had swordfish and son had a bolognese. Nice wine and beer selections. Delicious German Chocolate cake with Dulce de Leche ice cream and ruby port topped it all off for a fabulous birthday lunch.

We are glad to see that this place is still going strong. We ordered the french toast and granola. The french toast is not the typical kind. It is more like a thick piece of cake with sliced apples and whipped cream. Some people may not like it so be sure to ask for a description. The granola is excellent.... More

I'm not a big fan of polenta and this dis has a base of it. But the sausage was delicious. As soon as I bit into it, I was welcomed with a bunch of herbs that added to the taste.

Worth the wait, if necessary. Wonderful and interesting menu. Had the smoked salmon pizza and also eggs with polenta and sauce, yummy. Good bread (although you have to ask for it and it is extra; eggs not accompanied by bread). Good coffee. Good service in this French bistro like setting. I was solo and despite the crowds waiting to get... More

We ate here our first day in SF. The food was great and the place was extremely busy. We also ate there for breakfast early one morning. The menu is printed daily as it many foods change. It is kitty corner from Union Street Inn, where we stayed.

Description
A favorite in the Cow Hollow neighborhood, Rose's Café is a hangout for locals who bask in the sun at sidewalk tables, duck inside for a cappuccino, or stay for a leisurely lunch or dinner. Many customers are regulars who frequent our pretty bistro-café that offers table service and deliciously consistent food - Italian fare created using organic local produce, fresh seafood, humanely raised meats, and free-range poultry. Rose's artisan bakers bake a daily selection of pastries, desserts and breads. Menu highlights include: pizzas, daily soups, and house made pastas.

Staying in Marina District

Neighborhood Profile
Marina District
Beautiful homes, beautiful people, and a beautiful backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge welcome visitors to the Marina. Originally the location for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (whose remnants can be seen at the Palace of Fine Arts), much of the land was filled and flattened to accommodate a world’s fair. That ample space has given way to a jogger’s paradise at the northern edge of the city. With the picturesque bay setting as its backdrop, it’s no surprise that the area has hosted numerous movie productions. Daytime activities focus on café culture and boutique shopping, while the evenings turn this neighborhood into a party-going hotspot.
