La Folie's tasting menu can only be described by one word: EXCELLENT! Truly one of the best ever! Decadent, Delicious, Outstanding, Sophisticated. Chef Roland Passot’s Summer Tasting Menu is expensive ($150 + 95 for winepairing), but it is worth every penny. Service was professional and kind. Restaurant surroundings was cozy, relaxing and classic. All in all a perfect place to... More

Our favorite French restaurant in San Francisco. We had a memorable anniversary dinner with foie gras, snails and frogs legs, rabbit, lamb rack- rare, and cheese souffle. They have some new dishes like the snail and forgs legs which were wonderful. For the qualify of food, the prices are reasonable in that you can get a five course dinner for... More

Only thing missing was the Effiel Tower. While very spendy, likely the best meal we've had in many years.....and I've done international travel for 30 years. The dinner offerings were very interesting and outstanding in flavor. Wine list excellent. I can't remember better service......especially our lead waiter. While we'll remember my wife's 70th birthday we'll remember our dinner more.

About 10 or so years ago, I asked a taxi driver to name his favorite restaurant in SF. He said "La Folie". I remember hearing him say two things about it that left an indelible impression: 1) that it was consistently among the top places to eat in SF. 2) that it was the most requested restaurant destination in his... A truly fabulous evening! The food was amazing, as was the presentation. It's worth ordering the rabbit, just to see how beautifully it's presented. We both savored every morsel of the very generous portion of foie gras with caramelized peach in peach consommé. It was lovely and phenomenal, as were the butter-poached lobster and risotto with lobster. Service was also... More

It was an honor to have food prepared by chef Roland Passot and to meet him! This nationally acclaimed 'neighborhood' restaurant is a must if you are a foodie visiting San Francisco. The food, paired with Roland's master sommelier brother, George, was quite special. We did Roland's summer tasting menu with a few modifications and upgrades.

The food wasn't as good as I thought it would be. It was still quite good though. I had the vegetarian tasting menu. I received and extra dessert course and some extra snacks at the end of my meal. The service was excellent. I may not be back for a while, but I would give it another chance at some... More

A warm summer's and a table on the street in the sun watching the world go by with a beer - marvellous. The staff were great and the restaurant looked good as did the food. Well worth a visit one evening or lunchtime for a tie to eat. The bar was well stocked so I suspect early evening cocktails could... More

Outstanding French cuisine, courteous personalized service, serene atmosphere in the Green Room. We have been coming to La Folie for birthdays and anniversaries for quite a few years now, and we have never been disappointed. It has both a tasting menu and a la carte items, with differential price depending on how many items are chosen. Four items for $120... More

Staying in Russian Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Russian Hill
Russian Hill has evolved into a chic residential neighborhood with outstanding views from every corner. Combined with several great cafes, restaurants, antique shops and boutiques, it’s easy to see why any visitor would gladly leave their heart in San Francisco. Cars line up day after day to drive down Lombard Street, the “crookedest” street in the world, and make the slow creep downhill past charming period homes. Polk Street is the main drag in this neighborhood, where you will find trendy bars, cafes and shops populated with locals, but for one of the most charming rides in the city, grab a cable car heading up and down Hyde Street.
