We recently went here with some friends who live in the area we were visiting. This spot was very tasty and good value. Pros: -everyone liked their food with the braised Lambert risotto being particularly delicious -good wine list -casual but still nice atmosphere -really enjoyed the assortment of cheeses on the 4 cheese board Cons: -limited vegetarian options if... Went to this restaurant on while visiting San Francisco over Labor Day weekend. It is a small place but seems well run by an enthusiastic staff. I ordered their roast chicken, and the waiter promised it would be "one of the best five meals you have ever eaten". Well, it wasn't but it was well-prepared and accompanied by small potatoes,... For a terrific meal, with superb service, and a view or two of Cable Cars, head to this delightful neighborhood bistro and let the eating begin. A recommend or two for the beginning: burrata with proscuitto di Parma, basil, balsamico, and fig jam with toasted baguette. Sit back and savor the flavor. Yet another possible opener: smoked salmon bruschette. And... More

Visiting from Ohio. Excellent food! Flavorful! Just a 15 min. Walk from the Comfort Inn. What a well oiled machine! The manager was on top of things, very mindful of what was going on and attentive to the guests. Small place but all the wait staff moved about each other as if it was a synchronized movement. Was very impressed... More

The staff was very attentive. We had filet mignon and halibut which were both excellent. We actually sat next to some locals that were so nice we felt like we left with new friends.

We happened upon this one just by walking by. Not a big place so best to make a reservation. We didn't have one but the staff was accommodating and we managed to get a place at the bar. Wine selection isn't huge but what they have is very good. The meals are excellent. As mentioned, restaurant is cozy and a... More

Our first night in San Francisco and walking the neighbourhood we saw this restaurant. What a brilliant stroke of luck. It was early evening and quiet when we arrived but quickly started to fill up. We were greeted warmly and made our choices from the menu Burrata with Grilled Peach, cherries. Pea Shoots Toasted Almonds and Saba and main courses... More

My wife and I were walking back to our hotel after a visit to Fisherman's Wharf and Lombard street. We decided to walk the Cable care line in case we decided to jump on from our long walk. As we were walking through the Russian Hill neighborhood we came upon the front of Frascati. I stopped, looked in, read the... More

We were staying on Russian Hill and decided to try a neighborhood restaurant and it was vert good. Sat at the bar and talked to manager about the restaurant which was doing great business late in the evening. Had the duck which was cooked well and nicely seasoned. Wife had steak tartare and smoked salmon bruschetta which were both excellent.

We were lucky to get in on a last minute Sunday night booking (due to the NBA playoffs), but all luck to us. We got a prime window seat and magnificent service. And the food was superb. The duck was to die for, the salad was exquisite, and the pasta was home made silken perfection. This restaurant has been going... More

Staying in Russian Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Russian Hill
Russian Hill has evolved into a chic residential neighborhood with outstanding views from every corner. Combined with several great cafes, restaurants, antique shops and boutiques, it’s easy to see why any visitor would gladly leave their heart in San Francisco. Cars line up day after day to drive down Lombard Street, the “crookedest” street in the world, and make the slow creep downhill past charming period homes. Polk Street is the main drag in this neighborhood, where you will find trendy bars, cafes and shops populated with locals, but for one of the most charming rides in the city, grab a cable car heading up and down Hyde Street.
