A real experience for all visitors to the city. A little theatre with your food, with the salad and meats all presented at the table. The meat is very tender and the sides are great. The jus is super tasty! Only thing we didn't love...was the Yorkshire pudding, it came out after we'd finished our meat and was raw in the middle. Good drink selection, cocktails come in iced shakers so a good few glasses without needing to reorder constantly. Definitely worth a visitMore

We visited here with high hopes and what an outstanding evening we had . We were instantly shown to our seat by a very pleasant staff member who was most helpful . What can I say about the Food only that it was superb ....We had 3 steaks which were cooked to different likings and all 3 came just as ordered .A special mention to William who looked after us on the night . He was outstanding and went through everything with us in detail . Booking is a must for hereMore

House of Prime Rib basically does one thing - Prime Rib -and they do it really, really good. Super busy place, ended up eating at the bar. Great knowledgeable bartenders, real old school like the rest of the place. The atmosphere is incredible, like stepping...back in time to the days of the 3 o’clock martini.More

We went for a birthday meal. The place is really nice, aged but load back vibe. Staff were incredible, especially the sommelier, who was very funny but very knowledgeable. The food options are basic, you go for the prime rib. As a whole the experience...is probably better than the food, but the food is GOOD. defo a place to eat, if you have 150 bucks a head!More

We turned up at 5pm on a Friday and got a warm welcome and two seats at the bar for dinner. The restaurant has a lovely feel and all the staff are very polite. The place is called Prime Rib and that is what they...do very, very well. Sitting up at the bar eating amazing food and watching people on the top of their game in a real slick operation was a real pleasure. If you are in this part of town, highly recommendedMore

I was treated to the King Henry cut accompanied by tasty sides of creamed spinach and Idaho potato. Beef was a very generous size and cooked as ordered. The tossed salad was prepared in front of the table adding to the ceremony of the meal....It was full of atmosphere on Monday evening and a real treatMore

This place excels at exactly what their name suggests. Their sourdough bread is so good, I believe it is from the famous Boudin Bakery. Their prime rib is phenomenal. I got my mashed potatoes "baked potato style" (with baked potato toppings like sour cream, cheese,...and bacon) and that was so good. I did not flip over their creamed spinach but it was fine. My daughter got the creamed corn and I thought the spinach was better. Watch out to not over order, we walked out of there in physical pain from our distended stomachs, but then I had to go and order the huge portion of prime rib like a greedy fool. The value for quality and portion is excellent, and their wine list has plenty of reasonable options if you aren't there on some expense account splurge. And: the interior is wonderful, full of wood paneling and fireplaces, like an English private club. The rib is served from rolling silver carving stations, so there are plenty of charming and enticing sights and smells. Great place!More

We got recommended this restaurant by our Uber driver. He insisted that if we wanted meat for dinner to go here and described it as legendary. He was not wrong. Atmosphere: It’s a pretty big place and jam packed, but it adds to the experience...instead of taking away. The decor is beautiful and makes you feel like you’re dining in the 1950’s. Service- phenomenal. The servers are working hard here, but ours took the time to give us exceptional service. Food- I’m not going to lie, I got scared when I saw how the menu worked. I’m a pickier eater and not a huge fan of prime rib, but my boyfriend is. You basically go through course for course picking what you want from a limited menu. I made my selections and OH MY GOSH it was phenomenal. I chose the English cut and it was so unbelievably good. The salad was the best I’ve ever had. The sides were so delicious. Everything was five stars. (I’ve tried prime rib at other restaurants and did not like it, so I’m convinced there’s just something so special about this place). Price- so affordable, honestly. They could nickle and dime you for everything, but the my don’t. You get your set meal and stuff your face with the best food ever. Overall- you will not regret this. Easily one of the best restaurants I’ve ever eaten at.More

I've been going to the House of Prime Rib for over 30 years now whenever we are in the City by the Bay. The HOPR is an original, and still one-of-a-kind, prime rib joint. The prime rib is aged on property and the taste is...remarkable. Usually when you think of prime rib, it's some buffet tough meat. Not here at HOPR. Juicy, tender, cooked to perfection from well-done to bloody red. I prefer it rare--there's no other way to eat prime rib. It's not a cheap eats kind of place, but the bill also won't break the bank like some of the pretentious Nob Hill eateries. They don't nickel and dime you for the sides. Your meal comes with a salad, spun at your table. Then the magnificent stainless steel cart arrives to have your prime rib cut at your table. It comes with the full monty: baked potato (load it up), creamed spinach (my favorite) or creamed corn, and their superb Yorkshire pudding. The people are friendly and while the "old gang" is getting slimmer, the traditions at HOPR live on. I can still feel the vibe of Gus Stathis, the former maitre d who worked there for 63 years. On our last visit there we ate at the HOPR three, yes 3, times in a week. If you go to the HOPR eat prime rib--or don't go. My favorite: the King Henry cut of course--bloody red. Aloha from the Waipahu Traveler March 2022---We returned to the HOPR after coming out from under the COVID rock. It was as wonderful as I remember it. The King Henry cut will be my favorite until I die. The atmosphere is "old San Francisco" and I love it. Please don't change a thing. This is the only restaurant that I'll travel 2,000 miles to eat at. Aloha from Hawaii. Waipahu TravelerMore

You don’t go to the House of Prime unless you want Prime, they do have a fish dish. Served with two sides…fairly wide selection. Hot Sourdough Bread is part of the meal served as a loaf with butter. Prime is cut almost table-side from cart...with sides. Salad with choice of dressing is part of the meal as well. I had the cream spinach and bake potato. Cream spinach is either a hit or miss, it was the only miss of the meal. Service was very accommodating and excellent. If you enjoy prime highly recommend. I will return. Do recommend reservations.More

Our daughter chose HOPB for her birthday dinner and had the foresight to book a table months in advance for the 5:00 seating. The sidewalk, lobby and bar were crowded with patrons waiting to be seated; our vaccine certificates were checked, and the seating process...started promptly at 5:00. Our server greeted us right away and took our drink orders. A loaf of warm, fragrant sourdough bread was delivered and we tore into it right away, but showed restraint so we wouldn’t fill up before the main course. Cocktails were delivered promptly and the sommelier brought the Goldeneye Pinot Noir which I had selected from the impressive wine menu. The server soon returned to ask if we had questions regarding the menu which offers several different cuts of prime rib. Let him do his spiel, because he provided info that was not in the menu and we all changed our minds regarding the cut to order. Other than choosing the cut and doneness of the meat, the only other choice is mashed potatoes or baked potato. Everything else is included. The salad is dressed at table side with a bit of theater and served with chilled forks on chilled plates. We found the salad to be a bit overdressed and soggy so didn’t finish our portions. The carver - Alejandro! - was introduced and then he returned to his carving station to prepare our plates which were full with 3 slices of English Cut beef, creamed spinach, and mashed potatoes. More Au Jus was dribbled onto the meat, 3 different types of horseradish were offered (the hottest will clear your sinuses), then we dug in, remarking how delicious it all was. When the server saw our clean plates, he offered second helpings !!!! which we just couldn’t manage… A bowl of sorbet with a candle was delivered (gratis) and we sang happy birthday to the birthday girl, then we ordered 2 more decadent and delicious desserts - apple crisp and chocolate cake. It was an expensive dinner but a wonderfully choreographed experience with thoughtful and friendly service and top notch, delicious food. There is the possibility to order a fish course if someone in your party doesn’t eat meat, but I never saw any fish at the nearby tables. HOPB has been a San Francisco favorite since 1949, and now I know why !More

We are not new patrons of the House of Prime Rib. Recently, we planned a holiday trip to San Francisco and wanted to dine at the House of Prime Rib. 3 Months out, there were no reservations available. We were advised by the restaurant to...arrive 1 hour before the restaurant opening and get in line, they always hold open spots for "walk- ins". We arrived as instructed and were honestly amazed at the number of folks joining in the line. Amazingly, they seated everyone. The food is delicious. You can always count on the same predictable food combination/choices. It's a famous spot, for a reason. The food, ambiance, old school vibe, impeccable service, etc. There are many choices in San Francisco but we never miss the House of Prime Rib.More

First of all, I have been coming to the HPR since I was a little girl. My Dad dated my Mother her in the 1950's and knew the Matre D. Going to the HPR was always just for special occasions, the food is so good!...I went with my date to my High School Senior Ball here in 1979. Went here with my Dad for Thanksgiving back in 2002. I then moved to So Cal in 2005. Fast forward to 2021: My sister and out entire family went to the HPR for her 60th birthday. Oh my god. What a heavenly experience! The food is amazingly delicious. Service is impeccable. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. Simply the best Prime Rib I have ever had in my life.More
