As its name says, this place is all about prime rib. And it delivers. We were four and tried the House of Prime Rib Cut, the English Cut (thinner) and the City Cut. The difference is just in serving size, as all cuts were sliced in front of us from the same piece of meat. We all had dinners, which... More

This place is an institution! It has an old world style of decor and service. The food is excellent. I love how they prepare and serve your salad tableside and how they carve and serve your prime rib tableside as well. Love, love, love this restaurant!

HoPR strikes the perfect balance of quality food and service at an incredible value. The freshly baked sourdough bread, house salad, creamed corn/spinach, and baked/mashed potato that accompany your prime rib (get the King's Cut) can all be had for under $50/person. That's unheard of in SF these days. A word to the wise: do not plan on doing anything... More

I visit this restaurant at least twice a year and have been doing so for over 25 years ... they have never disappointed me. Their prime rib is one of the best on the west coast. Recently went there for my birthday and they once again met my every expectation. Regardless of who you are or when you get there,... More

Perfect meat, tender and juicy. You must order medium or well done, if you don't want to eat it very red. The side orders are very yummy. The mashed potatoes are delicious.

Even after all these years, their roast beef is still roasted and cut to perfection, exactly to what you requested. The side dishes are large and well prepared. You always come away very satisfied and too full, and happy with the bill.

We visited with a group of 10 and we were seated at an oddly configured set of tables, that tell me you are better off in groups of 6 or less. The place is strange. You eat on their terms or you don't eat. No appetizers, no blue cheese olives for martinis and it's either prime rib for dinner (or... More

HOPR, is by far one of the best restaurants for prime rib on the west coast. I have not found its competitor on the east coast for that matter! From the moment you enter, you recognize that you are in one of the more popular restaurants in SF. I highly suggest reservations, otherwise you will always encounter a long wait.... More

I expected a great meal at House of Prime Rib based on the reviews, but I didn't expect to have such a wonderful experience. We decided to try eating without a reservation, as the restaurant is booked way in advance for months ahead. Upon arriving, we were told it was a 2-1/2 hour wait for a table, so we opted... More

We live about fifty minutes away from the House of Prime Rib and the food is worth the drive! We recently celebrated our son's 18th birthday and the staff helped make the occasion memorable! Start your experience with a perfectly shaken martini. Cruise through the art of salad spinning, and await the finale when your prime rib plate is presented... More

Staying in Nob Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Nob Hill
Swanky and stylish, Nob Hill sits in the heart of the city and is home to amazing architecture and views. The hike to the top can be a challenging workout for those who forego a cable car ride, but they will be rewarded with some of the city’s most beautiful architecture adorning its peak. Originally populated with mansions after the Gold Rush, most if not all were devastated in the 1906 earthquake and fire that followed. Luckily all is not lost; storied hotels and Grace Cathedral surround Huntington Park. Having a drink or dinner while taking in the sunset and views at the "top of the Mark" is tough to beat.
