This restaurant is very unique, from it decoration, thru its food, which by the way was very very good. There were two things that I disliked about this place. Number one, service was extremely slow, it took them around 20 minutes just to offer us drinks when we got there. And the second thing is that the air conditioner was... More

Our waitress was nice, but the staff on the front desk were incredibly rude, exactly as one other reviewer put it - "The rest of the staff gave the impression as though they were doing you a favor. I really dislike spending money in places like that". The lady told us it would be an hour's wait, which we were... More

They want to create a fine and special atmosphere in the restaurant and it is not bad. Unfortunately at first they had not two of the main dishes that we ordered like lobster and new York steak and yhis is not good as menu choices are nit do many. Then as soon as we went to restroom all my positive... More

I have been to Foreign Cinema many times over the past couple of years & it never disappoints! It is by far one of the best dining experiences in San Francisco for its beautiful decor & spaces, food & ambiance, etc. I have tried almost every dish and it is one of the few restaurants I have gone to that every... If you enjoy a place with some adventure in the menu and a stylish environment, and don't mind spending a little more for it, Foreign Cinema is the place. Made reservations but did not realize that I needed to request the patio. Since the patio seating is what we came for, we waited it out for about 20 minutes and... More

How could I have waited so long to recommend Foreign Cinema. Totally worth a trip to the Mission, Foreign Cinema is one of our favorite brunch spots in SF. The food is interesting and eclectic and always features something unique and new. The tables are rather close together and the feel of the dining area is bustling. I understand that... More

A native SF , I was living in the Mission when Foreign Cinema opened back in the early 2000's . A hit from the start , we visited often , and close friends gained employment there . I am pleased to say it still has the unique " star ambiance " it always had , without a ' Hollywood vibe... More

The menu is quite extensive, covering French-style international food. Personally I found my tuna melt tasty but rather salty. The croque Madame was rich and satisfying, and the confit de canard was tender. The greens that came with each dish were original. As it was a birthday event, we were kindly offered a complimentary "pop tart" filled with an excellent... More

The restaurant was packed on a Tuesday night. We had reserved an outside table in the courtyard and they didn't disappoint us. Food was excellent - from the Ceviche to the Kobe beef to the "Scallops and friends" dish all were done perfectly and brought out their flavor accordingly. As the night turned darker, the movie was projected to the... More

We were scared walking around the neighbourhood looking for this place, but then it turned out to be a diamond in the rough! Funky atmosphere- enjoyed the old theatre appeal and drive-in speakers. Very cool.

Staying in Mission District

Neighborhood Profile
Mission District
From burritos to bicyclists, the Mission is the foundation for all things hip in the city. Cultural attractions, an independent arts community, sumptuous street murals and a high density of bars and cafes make this neighborhood a magnet for young people. While terrific inexpensive food is abundant, its top-of-the-line restaurants now compete with the city’s best for fashionable diners. Indulge as the locals do by heading to Mission Dolores Park, buy some ice cream, and savor one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the country.
