A must visit if you are in San Francisco. Nice atmosphere. Beyond delicious food. Well worth the high prices! Seriously- I hate overpaying for average food. This food was OUT OF THIS WORLD. I had the seared pacific ahi- melted in my mouth- and the cheesecake for dessert. Warm bread was served with room temp butter and I could taste... More

I took my friend Jane for her birthday to Foreign Cinema. We both loved it. Nice ambience especially outside. The food was very well presented and absolutely delicious. For our starters we had the Halibut Tartare that had a light lemon ponzu dressing and served beautifully with Taro chips. We also had a delectable baked goat cheese served with black... More

As a party of five, we sampled items from their Urban Picnic to begin and followed by entrees including the Kobe beef, chicken, duck, and salmon...all of which were delicious and devoured. The wine list, although not inexpensive, is extensive with some true finds. The one downside was in the serving staff...from a delay in finding and serving the wine... More

For my birthday, we chose to have brunch at the Foreign Cinema, as I'd heard rave reviews about this place. Tucked into a hipster neighborhood in SF, we ordered lots of things to try and share, namely the French toast, topped with a couple of yellow peaches, and brown sugar-butter. It was delicious, but I would have preferred to have... More

Foreign Cinema is seriously hyped up so we expected big things. It was the most expensive meal we had in San Francisco but unfortunately it didn't live up to the hype or the money. The food was fine but it didn't wow us. The service was a bit stuffy and we felt a bit embarrassed to ask questions about the... More

I liked Foreign Cinema in San Francisco's Mission District so much, I went back on my second trip and brought my traveling companion. We sat at the bar (by choice) and dinner was exceptional again. It's a busy, acoustically "bright" space packed full of young multinationals. Not overly themed, but there is always a silent film showing in the outdoor... More

This restaurantant did not turn out as good as our expectations. Restaurant itself is very nice and suprisingly large when you enter from the doorway. Food was ok but it was not worth the price. I would not visit again.

An amazing place and a great experience. You have to sit outside if you can. We ate some fabulously good food whilst they showed Dead Poets Society... the Robin Williams movie.. projected on the wall 20ft high. The menu was exciting. I ate Tuna in Persian spices which was amongst the best I ever had. The wines have been selected... More

We had a fabulous dinner with family and young children. Inventive, edgy menu. Accommodating to children...no problem dealing with food allergies. Sit outdoors in the evening to watch the movie if possible. Lovely atmosphere...will return!

Amazing venue, but loud. Our server was great. He was professional and kind. The rest of the staff gave the impression as though they were doing you a favor. I really dislike spending money in places like that. My steak was good but nothing to go back for.

Staying in Mission District

Neighborhood Profile
Mission District
From burritos to bicyclists, the Mission is the foundation for all things hip in the city. Cultural attractions, an independent arts community, sumptuous street murals and a high density of bars and cafes make this neighborhood a magnet for young people. While terrific inexpensive food is abundant, its top-of-the-line restaurants now compete with the city’s best for fashionable diners. Indulge as the locals do by heading to Mission Dolores Park, buy some ice cream, and savor one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the country.
