We were recommended to go here by the concierge at our hotel but it did not live up to expectations. The food wasn't particularly memorable and the film theme was not what we expected - seeing as it's selling point is the fact a movie is on while you are there you can hardly see the picture and the sound... I was so excited about coming here for dinner. Unfortunately, I found it to be just average. The atmosphere inside was nice but nothing special. I imagine it would be more enjoyable to sit out on the patio, with a better view of the movie. Similarly, the food was fine, nothing bad but nothing I'm looking forward to having again.... More

We celebrated my daughter's 16th birthday at Foreign Cinema and had a wonderful experience. Excellent service, delicious food, and the most fun and unique atmosphere. We especially enjoyed their baked goat cheese appetizer - outstanding. I loved their scallop entree and my daughter enjoyed her halibut dish. When you walk in, you feel like you are walking into an actual... More

We were visiting friends in SF and this restaurant was suggested. The atmosphere is great with great outdoor seating. When it gets dark, they show a movie on the side of a building in the patio area. Our waiter was great, he was helpful with food selections and charming in his descriptions of the food offerings. It was a busy... More

Came here for lunch on a whim when back in town visiting friends. There were 7 of us and they managed to find us a great table for lunch and on a weekend. The service and food were all impeccable. I used to come when it first opened and after all this time, it's just a wonderful.

We celebrated our anniversary there and I enjoyed every moment: friendly and fast service, great choice of local and international wines, fantastic food (salad with hummus, fresh bread, melted cheese with Zante grapes, fresh sea bas). Since we had an early dinner, we couldn't watch the movie which starts after sunset. But we will be back!

On the drive to this place you really do wonder if it's worth the trip from fishermans wharf ......When you get there and see the food selection and drinks it 100% is worth it . I personally wouldn't bother with a cocktail to start next time as too much ice for my liking ......pretty petty comment and that's really the... More

While glad we visited and ate at Foreign Cinema, wouldn't hurry back nor recommend to others. The server began by forgetting us for the longest time, then pressured us to purchase a more expensive bottle of wine when we knew exactly which wine we wanted. Tables are crowded closely next to each other and we had the humorous/uncomfortable experience of... More

Such a neat place!! Outdoor seating (under a canopy) with a big white wall at the far side of the dinning room that serves as a movie screen after dark. The retro drive in movie speakers are easily accessible and serve as your audio for the movie. The food was amazing! The menu is ever changing, but our party had... More

Staying in Mission District

Neighborhood Profile
Mission District
From burritos to bicyclists, the Mission is the foundation for all things hip in the city. Cultural attractions, an independent arts community, sumptuous street murals and a high density of bars and cafes make this neighborhood a magnet for young people. While terrific inexpensive food is abundant, its top-of-the-line restaurants now compete with the city’s best for fashionable diners. Indulge as the locals do by heading to Mission Dolores Park, buy some ice cream, and savor one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the country.
