We stopped in and were unaware of how busy this place would be on a weeknight! Despite no reservation they found my husband and I two seats at the counter which overlooked the food prep and chef area! So we got dinner and a show! These guys were amazing at how quickly and efficiently they prepared the dishes. Enjoyed watching... More

We made reservations, arrived early, and so of course our table wasn't ready, but we stepped up a few steps to the bar and ordered a bottle of wine. It was a great red wine and we were ready to eat when notified it was time. We had to ask the waitress to carry to wine bottle to our table,... More

Went here on a suggestion from a friend who lives in SF. we tried the prime rib and the shrimp scampi. Both were fantastic! Come with an appetite because you'll get plenty of food.

Stroll down memory lane, watch the latest sports events...particularly those involving California Teams and be entertained by some of the most incredible Bar Tenders you'll ever encounter...The drinks are great and the food continues to be good....after all these years....Joe's Special remains "special"...Enjoy! The restaurant has white table cloths...and is great for two to twelve or more!

The place was buzzing, great for seeing what a Friday night in Little Italy is like. The service was also very efficient despite how busy it was. I had the minestrone soup and garlic bread - both very tasty and good size portions - and the eggplant parmigiana, which was also pretty good. Overall I'd rate it a 4.5. Half... More

From Cobb salad to eggplant parm this place does not disappoint. Nice ambiance, good service and an awesome flourless chocolate cake.

The food is excellent- order raviolis with anything and you will happy. We started with Arancinni which were delicious. The bar is lively, as is the restaurant. Excellent service makes it all fun. It is in the heart of North Beach so you are in a great neighborhood for a walk after dinner.

After being told an hour wait at Tony's we found original joes right across the street. We were seated immediately at the chefs bar. We were able to see the chefs create the meals which was fun. Tried the arinici which was fabulous. Entrees were good. Desserts even better. I'm a foodie and will definitely come back. Service was wonderful.... More

The building is part of the Little Italy history and Original Joe's is part of San Francisco history. They are now one of the same since Original Joe's moved into what used to be Fior d'Italia. The restaurant has an old world supper club feeling. I half expected Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack to walk in. The food is... More

We were staying in Union Square area but found there wasn't a great choice of restaurants, we found this on TripAdvisor. We booked a table online which was easy to do, to avoid waiting. We arrived about 10 minutes before and had a drink at the bar first, the bar staff were very efficient and friendly and it was a... More

A fabric of the City for 75 years, it is located in the heart of the historic and majestic North Beach, a mecca for natives, tourists, and culinary aficionados alike. Original Joe’s is the oldest of all existing Joe’s restaurants in the country and is the innovator of what is now nationally known as the “Joe’s Concept”. Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
