I stopped in here while on business recently. They have excellent Sichuan. I had there Kung Pao Xi Ding (Kung Pao chicken). It was fabulous! One of the few places in the US I've had this dish as spicy as it should be. Staff was super friendly and very accommodating to my food allergies. Great Chinese restaurant! I'll definitely go... I'm really sad not to give Henry's Hunan a better rating. I believe the several restaurants have a shared ownership - I've been dozens of times to the various locations over the years, including on Sansome/Levi's Plaza, North Beach, Noe Valley, and Natoma locations. It's not a fancy place, but typically the food is excellent. Many Chinese restaurants in SF... More

I've been here a few times on group events. I realize that this place is picked because it's cheap for group dinners, so it's all a matter of perspective. For me, though, this place has nothing special to it. The food is salty, it's greasy, the place looks worn out. The restaurant us also on a street that one would... More

For over twenty years, they have been dishing up spicy plates of Hunan food. If you go, try Henry's special or Marty's special. My all time favorite is the Hot and Spicy fried fish fillets. The appetizers are ok - but the hot and sour soup and hunan dishes are the star of the show. Try to arrive at 11:30... More

Henry's special, loaded with shrimp and scallops. I ate at Henry's Hunan Restaurant 4 days in a row. They will make it as spicy as you like. when back in SF I will be eating there again.

Very good lunchtime pick for really good Chinese food at reasonable prices. Casual and unpretentious atmosphere.

Henry's is a great place to eat lunch. Fast service and great tasting food, with large portions. The dumplings are tasty, and if you ask they can be prepared very spicy. Henry's Seafood Special which contains chicken, shrimp, scallops and vegetables with hot bean sauce, is my favorite dish for lunch, washing it down with a Kirin beer. The Kung... More

Through the alley ways of downtown San Francisco you're likely to walk past and/or not even see the entrance door to Henry's Hunan restaurant, but I tell you it's well worth the hunt. This unassuming location offers a large dining area outfitted in the customary Chinese decor with space enough for several simultaneous large parties. I understand that it get's... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
