Mixed experience at Fringale Restaurant on a Monday night. I was able to reserve a table for ten people by phone after trying in vain through the hotel and web; the latter two options required a credit card hold that was subjected to a $25 per head cancellation penalty. Upon arrival, we were seated in a comfortable section of the... More

Just love this little place. About 10 tables, with owner-operated staff, classic French cuisine and an interesting, small winelist. Food quality was superb, it's a bit off the beaten path, but very walkable from Moscone or Union Square, if you don't mind walking a bit.

Those of us who grew up in and around SF are still subject to some surprise at the quality of what's now in SOMA. Fringale is one of those pleasant surprises. Small, friendly, professionally run, but possessing an atmosphere that makes everyone feel like a local. The menu is not huge, but is varied and interesting, with a countryside, comfortable... More

A little touch of France. I really enjoy the duck confit, but everything is good. The wine list is very good and nicely priced.

From beginning to end a wonderful experience! A quiet Tuesday night but a warm welcome followed by great service, excellent recommendations and an equally Excellent classic bistro meal. No more be said.

This was our first time here and I thought it was a very good French bistro. Simple menu but there's something for everyone. I ordered the Roquefort & Spinach ravioli and the braised veal short ribs. Both were very good especially the veal short ribs. The veal short ribs consisted of 3 or 4 pieces and it was really tender... More

I've been here several times over the last few months, one of my favorite places to eat south of Market Street. The service is very good, the restaurant is pretty, and the food is outstanding. Traditional French with a large enough menu to cover anyone in your party. At the same time the prices are very reasonable for SF. Highly... More

I revisited Fringale with a friend last night and had a wonderful experience. It had been a long time since my last visit as I live on the east coast. I had a great meal many years ago and can say the quality has if anything gone up. There was no prix fixe menu as they were still adjusting from... More

We went to Fringale with friends-- 2 families with 5 adults and 4 children. All the food was delicious, though the bacon wrapped pork tenderloin was undercooked for one friend; she sent it back and it came back perfect. Also, half of the dessert menu was no longer available by the end of our meal, but the options that remained... More

A neighborhood gem, we've eaten here before on previous visits to SF & think it's a wonderful, non touristy bistro with all the favorites you'd expect to find in a French outpost. The salads appear to be so fresh they could have been harvested that afternoon & the entrees are lovingly prepared.

Fringale pioneered the South of Market culinary renaissance as one of the first true French bistros in San Francisco. Featuring French/ Basque cuisine, specialties include spicy Monterey calamari with jalapenos & chorizo, foie gras terrine with nectarine compote, bacon wrapped pork tenderloin, and braised savoy cabbage with caramelized onion sauce. Also popular is traditional duck confit served with lentils "Du Puy" in red wine sauce.

The restaurant's sponged eggshell colored walls, blonde wooden chairs, sand and earth toned banquettes and verdigris bartop create a dining environment that is sophisticated, intimate and inviting. Fringale is a place where guests can drop in for a glass of wine and snack at the bar or enjoy a tantalizing meal prepared by one of the finest French kitchens in San Francisco.

In addition to a full bar, Fringale's wine list offers a fine selection of California wines along with wine selections from smaller French producers.

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
