Now I am not Italian and have yet to tour Italy. With that said, North Beach Restaurant is the best Italian food we have ever had, bar none. My husband and I have been going there for 20 years. It is always great, there is rarely a wait (but do get a reservation). We have been for lunch and dinner.... More

The food is good. The service is too. The wine list is extensive and they cure their own prosciutto. All that being said you will have a good meal, BUT do not allow them to seat you in their Wine Cellar which is a converted basement usually used for banquets and upstairs overflow. It is dark, unappealing and can be... More

With friends that did not want any chain restaurants, we discovered this delicious Italian restaurant that felt more "authentic" than Italian trattorias in Italy.

I travel to San Francisco for work on a regular basis, and bring my wife along on occasion. We found out new favorite restaurant in North Beach Restaurant! The spaghetti carbonerra is wonderful, and their house Brunello wine is well worth the cost. The food is fantastic and at a value price for the area.

Nice atmosphere. All waiters in tuxedos. Host is gracious and makes you feel welcome. We asked the waiter repeatably to guide us to a recommendation but his answer was pretty much everything good. Wish they had had a side portion of spaghetti Bolognese. Why are portions so large? The one thing that really bothered me was the Caesar salad. It... More

Decided to walk up Columbus and pick a place at random. We liked the look of North Beach and received a warm and professional welcome. It was clear that the majority of diners were regulars going by the lengthy chats with the host. We shared some starters and had a couple of very good pasta dishes for main. Definitely worth... We had a lovely meal after viewing the musical "Beach Blanket Babylon" up the road. The food and the service are both amazing.

My wife and I asked locals and were referred to North Beach for authentic, old style Italian and this place delivered. Great service with formality as only Italians do. I had veal cutlet parmigiano and angel hair bologna, followed with cannot (not on menu), all five star. It has a huge wine cellar with wine up to $5000.

I went last December recommend by the hotel concierge and we loved it. First time I had a pasta with vodka sauce (puttanesca) second visit I ordered the same and I tried my hubby porcini risotto appetizer and chicken liver entree both very tasty and I usually don't eat liver nor mushroom. During both visits we had the same waiter.... More

Love North Beach Resturant, we have shared this site with so many. Celebrated Birthdays, get together's and quite dinners here Love the staff, Marco is The best. The family has a winery in the Napa valley, wine is wonderful. One of the few places that has Abalone. Can't say enough about this Resturant ...

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
