The partner of a work colleague found this place for a small group of friends. I tagged along since I was in the city and was enjoying the company. I was not particularly in the mood for Spanish but that changed pretty quickly once the delicious tapas started to show up. The shrimp was a real stand out, perfectly seasoned... More

Small but versatile menu. Two of us were tapas pros and two were less adventurous. We all really enjoyed our meal! Happy hour specials (small plates & drinks) were extremely reasonable and delicious. Location is cool and unexpected. Would go back without hesitation!

I took a colleague to lunch here are was impressed again. The ham, paella, patatas bravas, stuffed piquillo peppers, tortilla espanola were all good. Having lived in Spain for 3 years and being a bit of a foodie, I did appreciate this restaurant, its food and service. Funny note on the paella - a sign of a good paella is... More

Nestled within a cluster of awning-laden cafes in a modest alleyway, B44 and it's cohorts are reminiscent of cafes you might find in Paris. Excellent ambiance, complete with heaters to ward off the ever-present San Francisco chill. This alone is worth a fly-by. Service was excellent here. The food, a signature B44 paella was okay. They have a sign, 15 minutes... More

Belden Place offers many different restaurants. I've tried a couple whenever I am in the city but I often return to this Catalan restaurant both for its food and its ambiance. Their tapas are consistently good and in generous portions (so unlike Spain). The casa de vino good. Service is prompt and unobtrusive. Their dishes are very Catalan - more... More

A gem in San Fran. So many great tapas to choose from... Loved the gambas (garlic shrimp) to start & the paella con conejo (rabbit).

We hadn’t been here for a year-plus. Won’t make that mistake again; will be back sooner. B44 serves very good-to-excellent Catalan food at reasonable prices. We enjoyed the paella on prior visits. But, focused on the small plates this visit. Our six choices ranged from $8 for Patatas Bravas (not to be missed) to $16 for pan-seared scallops, shrimp and... More

B44 serves Spanish food in a crowded Italian market scene. B44's ceviche is very different from most ceviches you have had, it has a tomato base and comes with a scallop, a shrimp, and lots of ocotopus. Of the 8 restaurants on Belden Lane, this is our favorite.

This place is off the beaten path but had a great atmosphere.  It's a unique place to eat because it's down a small alley way.  The food is very good Spanish food (excellent Paella) and the price is very reasonable for San Francisco.  Would recommend this place to anyone looking for a San Francisco experience.

Well, it was Super Bowl 50 Weekend and every place we tried was closed (I'm guessing due to crowds and proximity to the weekend's festivities). A few quick turns after surfacing from BART and we found this quaint side street with all these restaurants. We viewed a few menus and decided tapas might set the evening off right. We were... More

Staying in Financial District

Neighborhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
