We ate out at the front of Calzone's restaurant whilst visiting San Francisco and it was lovely to watch the world go by as we ate, almost felt like we could have been in Europe. All of our dishes were tasty, however, the gnocchi was a little undercooked but it still tasted good and the meat sauce we had with... More

For you types wanting to find an original Italian restaurant in the heart of North Beach better known as San Francisco's Little Italy- you won't be disappointed! I say this only because I have read reviews of similar San Francisco eateries where finicky types have searched for original cuisine and have found less than hope. If you want original the... More

Me and my husband visited here this week and we were disapointed. We both ate pasta and it didn't have much flavor and the service was average. Would'n recomment this place.

OK, I don't want to sound hyperbolic, but my husband said this was the best meal he had in San Fran. (And we've eaten at Chinese, Japanese, Irish, Homestyle, Local, and some other stuff, too.) Cheese calzone, arugula salad, the filet beef sandwich with some #$%^&! Magic Sauce and French fries, OMG!, and artichoke ravioli with tomato cream sauce --... More

This place was rated high and in the middle of North Beach so we were expecting superb Italian food. The table was very small, food was rushed and slapped down on our table, the food was cold, and really pretty tasteless.

We had planned to go to Tony's up the road - a 1 1/2 - 2 hour wait for a table changed that plan. Calzone is around the corner and seated us within 15 minutes. The menu is mainly pizza / pasta. The cooking is fair. Pizza's were OK, and steak was actually very tasty. Service was swift and efficient.... More

We had a party of 7 and made a reservation. They were busy but forgot to prepare my daughter's meal. I never got the wine I asked for. Minimal water refills or refills of any sort. Food was good wait staff was poor. Wouldn't go there again because of it.

We went here looking for italian in North Beach. Great location, average food and very pricey. I guess that's to be expected in a tourist area. Service was decent.

It was a nice sunny day and enjoyable to sit outside the restaurant. I didn't even mind paying almost $8 for a tap beer during the happy hour of the day. But my grandson wanted garlic bread, and for $8 we got about 30 cents worth of bread. I felt stupid paying for this.

Great food in a wonderful location in North Beach - Little Italy. What else would you want. This is our second visit to SF and we have eaten at Calzones three time and are planning visit number 4 tonight. The pizzas are outstanding. Can't wait for calzones (the restaurant and the entree) tonight.

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
