Had a business lunch here on the fly. Good pasta, prompt and friendly service. I would like to return here for a long evening with lots of vino and more pasta.

Walk in, no reservations. Seated immediately at a tight little table near the door. Tiny place. Window open to street. Very noisy. Waited a long time to take orders, get drinks, get food (but bill cam quickly). Caesar salad was excellent, lots of cheese and anchovies. Spinach gnocchi were bland, doughy. Spinach ravioli was very good. Nither was served with... More

Had a business dinner planned to impress, that included reservations. They stuffed 12 of us in a back corner. Service was slow and sporadic, drinks were ordered and the over price wine came out one bottle at a a time. Beer and drinks took up to 10 minutes. Several specials were offered, and three of us had the veal Parmesan,... More

Umbria was recommended to me by a stranger walking on the street near Moscone Center who saw my conference badge and figured I was an out-of-towner - turned out to be a great recommendation; even recommended a dish off the menu that I ordered, angel hair with shrimp John Newman (no, I don't know why or who John Newman is....);... Enjoyed a late lunch here. Pizza was just okay and wanted something a little more italian like. Soup and Sandwich combo is the way to go. Reasonably priced wine list. Friendly young helpful staff.

My wife and I were craving delicious Italian food on our San Francisco visit, and this restaurant was a great find that certainly satisfied our longings. They serve hearty, honest and delicious Italian dishes that leave you deeply satisfied. Both our lasagna and the risotto served with a generous shaving of black truffles on top were thoroughly enjoyable dishes. The... More

While visiting San Francisco, while stayed in the Financial District. Our hotel provided us with a list of restaurants around the area. I looked at the reviews at the ones we were interested and decided to try the Ristorante Umbria. We were too tired to go out to dinner one evening. So, since this restaurant was close and the menu... Sam, we appreciate your review! We also apologize for any discomfort you may have felt. I can assure you, it had nothing to do with your clothing or anything of that nature. As you can imagine, Friday nights are one of our busiest nights and we have many reservations on the books. As such, any open tables that you may... More

Met another couple here for dinner as it was convenient to some of our offices and for travel into the city for others. Small trattoria with the Giants on TV above the bar. Service was efficient and friendly and food was excellent. Be sure to check the daily specials menu on the back of the regular menu. There are treasures... More

We were exhausted and tired of eating seafood so we stopped into this small, cozy restaurant. The Carpaccio was great. We also really enjoyed the Eggplant Parmesan...some of the best I've had anywhere.

Thank pamgro

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
