We always go to cafe Claude when we visit San Francisco. Great French food and has a kind of hideaway feeling because it's in a cool alley. Love the onion soup, their salads, and really any entree is delicious. Takes me back to my visits to Paris!

I had a delicious meal at Claude at 9:15 last night. The bread was tasty but not crusty. The coq au vin was bland: needed herbs. My drink and dessert were perfect. Service was excellent but too chummy for this New Yorker.

Had lunch at Cafe Claude. The service was as fast or slow as you wanted it. We stayed a couple of hours. We shared the Salade Nicoise and the Mussels with Frites. Both were very good and plenty of food. We enjoyed 4 glasses of wine and the cost was about $100.00. Might have been cheaper to buy a bottle... More

I came here spontaneously with two friends. Staff was friendly and spoke French. I assume that speaks for a French restaurant. There is outside seating available. The restaurant is located in a small alley. There is a covered outdoor area in that alley. Inside, there was some live jazz playing, to which I was skeptical at first. I'm not a... More

Cafe Claude restaurant, San Francisco is excellent. My 2 friends and I were at Claude’s for dinner last Saturday. I had the crispy duck and it was excellent. One of my friends had the mussels and French fries. The wine and champagne selections were excellent. We all liked the waiter. The jazz band was quite good and added to the... More

Great French inspired restaurant with romantic atmosphere and flawless waitstaff. Don't be put off by it's location - simplest way is to look for the Triton Hotel near the Chinatown gate and walk around the back of the hotel until you get to the alley - that's ClUde lane. Look for the awning sticking out into the alley! Enjoy it... More

When your friends tell you they know of a French restaurant in an alley of San Francisco, do not immediately refuse. You might be in for a real treat! Cafe Claude is indeed in an alley not far from Union Square cleverly named Claude Lane. With both inside and outside dining, you must prepare your palate for some very entertaining... More

The service and ambience are what make this restaurant. The waiter was exceptional, he made the dining experience and with the jazz playing in the background with the quality wines that were suggested, it made for anenjoyable evening. The was good, though it was the difference between good and excellent.

We had fromage here. It was amazing and very classy. Wine was okayish which was not expected from a french restaurant. Desert was just okay, but m giving a 4 star just for good service and ambience.

Although the restaurant is located in an alley ( an unusual location) once inside one is transported into a Parisian Bistro. The food was outstanding the service as well. A great experience a great prize! You cannot go wrong. The food is actually prepared with the feel and flavor of the food we have had in Paris and Nice. Highly... More

Description
Affectionately known as the "Paris of the West," Cafe Claude is a San Francisco institution. Situated on one of the city's hidden alleys, Claude Lane, Cafe Claude offers a taste of France, with classic bistro dishes at lunch and dinner, a full bar, and an affordable wine list. On warm days, linger on the patio and enjoy a rare dose of sunshine, or a warming bowl of onion soup or coq au vin inside. On weekends, the restaurant comes alive with live jazz from 7 to 10pm, Thursday through Saturdays.
