We just had a fabulous meal! The staff and space is wonderful. It is a little bit hard to find... It is stashed down a small street. We spent a month in Paris and this restaurant equals the best meals we had there. And tonight was Live Jazz night with a trio that included a bandoneon playing tangos. Lovely evening.

Sept. 10, 2016: Theater at 2pm, Dinner 5pm Cafe Claude for four. Been there many times before, but not for past 2+yrs. Still good, but used to be great. Decent service (not as polished or attentive), pleasant ambiance very Parisien like cafe hidden in small alley which on a Sunday eve was frequented by some unsavory characters. The food was... More

I told a very good friend who knows the SF restaurant scene very well where we were going to go for dinner. His comment was "I know you like French food but why pay 4 times more than you need to!" He suggest Cafe Claude because it was within easy walking distance from the Palace Hotel. It does not have... More

This hidden gem is a must try if you're looking for french near the financial district. It is tucked away on a side street, but worth the search! The menu did not disappoint! The frisee salad was amazing! They have live jazz thursday to saturdays, which adds to the romantic ambiance. The service was also incredible. I would HIGHLY recommend... More

If you enjoy classic "old school" french cuisine ala Julia Child with a side of jazz music, then Cafe Claude is the place for you. It is our favorite place to go whenever we are in San Francisco. hard to break old habits and this is one habit we will surely keep. Thursday, Friday and Saturday are jazz nights which... More

Had a lovely dinner at Cafe Claude located on a little hard to find street (Claude lane). We sat out side on a pleasant night and heaters kept us comfortable. We started with Steak Tartare mixed table side and it very good. Shared an order of fries. I had the French classic Coq Au Vin Pieces of chicken, bacon, and... More

We've eaten at many French Restaurants in town and this is a great one. The Cafe has an ambience that makes it very romantic. Great choice of classic French cuisine that is well prepared. Not a restaurant to get a full meal on a budget, but for special occasions or whilst traveling, it's worth the splurge.

My son visited this restaurant after I found it here on TA. REally enjoyed all the food but was really impressed when a young waitress poured his beer with too much head and the manager came over said that was not correctly done and replaced the beer immediately. Great attention to detail here !

Description
Affectionately known as the "Paris of the West," Cafe Claude is a San Francisco institution. Situated on one of the city's hidden alleys, Claude Lane, Cafe Claude offers a taste of France, with classic bistro dishes at lunch and dinner, a full bar, and an affordable wine list. On warm days, linger on the patio and enjoy a rare dose of sunshine, or a warming bowl of onion soup or coq au vin inside. On weekends, the restaurant comes alive with live jazz from 7 to 10pm, Thursday through Saturdays.
