I came with 5 friends and we shared the pancakes, the french toasts and the Monte Cristo sandwich (which is the best I have ever eaten !). I could brunch there every day ! But very long line : come early !

My husband and I spent a 3 day weekend in San Francisco, and Mama's was high on our list to try for breakfast. We made 2 attempts to eat here, the first time, we arrived at 7:30, and waited an hour, and had to leave because we had a tour scheduled at 9. The second time, we arrived at 8,... More

After a 30 minute wait, this cafe really lived up to our expectations. It had a great choice of pancakes, omelettes and french toast. There was also great customer service and a clean cafe. The portions are large so I would recomend 1 portion each if you are also planning to have lunch and 2 if you want a brunch!... More

I can't believe this restaurant is rated this high. From getting in line to leaving the restaurant after gobbling down our food (we had a flight to make) it took us two hours. We are vegetarians so we tried the two veggie omelets on the menu and they were very average. I don't blame the place for the hype but... More

Where can I start??? We waited 2 hours in line to be seated. The system is wonderful. I counted like 14 to 15 tables. Once you enter you place your order pay and then they sit you. The food is amazing, pancakes, omelettes, home made jelly.!!!!!..!!!! YOU MUST COME HERE. 3rd generation running this place. Come support it!!!!

Stopped at Mama's based on a recommendation. Was absolutely wonderful. Expect a wait. Met some nice people in line who were also visiting San Francisco and conversed while waiting for a table. Once inside were greeted by efficient happy staff. Watched the meals being made while waiting to order with delicious fresh ingredients. Our breakfasts were absolutely wonderful. I strongly... More

We waited over an hour for an uninspired Cobb Salad which was made with a rotton avocado as the wait was so long in the hot sun, we finally settled for lunch fare and not their usual breakfast. The breakfast/brunch menu looked very good, but franly one could find just the same at another sopt wihout the long, hot wait.

I had the Farmer's omelette, husband had eggs and son had chocolate and cinnamon French toast. All delicious. We waited about an hour at just after 8 on a Thursday morning - worthwhile. But queue can be two hours + at weekends.

Worth the wait. Best breakfast ever. Crumb cake is warm and to die for. Amazing hollandaise in Eggs Benedict. Don't miss it!

Pretty much same thing with the other breakfast serving restaurants so waiting like an hour to get to your table is meaningless to me. It's a tourist attraction point somehow.

Established in 1951.
The family of Mama and Papa Sanchez, serves up traditional and innovative breakfast dishes in "Little Italy", the famous North Beach District in San Francisco. Across the street from the beautiful Washington Square Park, Mama's legions of fans line up early and throughout the day. Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
