My wife, daughter and I heard Mama's was great so we thought we'd give it a try. Having never been there, we weren't familiar with their "system". We got there just before 8a (they open at 8) and there was quite a line. We figured we'd file in when they opened, get a table and order, etc. Not how it... More

One of the must dos when it comes to food in SFO. A family owned restaurant with nice service, very good food. They don't accept credit card. If you go there during breakfast or lunch time ("rush hours") you may wait before you can entry.

After a recommendation by friends we decided to visit Mama's for breakfast! We heard there was always a queue so got there about 8.45am and waited about 40 minutes to get in! When we did however it was definitely worth the wait! The portions were huge and the food delicious. Our table had an omelette, breakfast and pancakes... All were... More

We've been here due to all the positive reviews we've read. Yet, our breakfast experience here was a bit disappointing. After waiting in the queue for more than an hour, we finally found two tables for two people (we were a party of four) but instead of putting those two tables together the host made us wait for another 30... San Francisco is clearly known for its food. If you are in San Francisco, you HAVE to eat breakfast/lunch/brunch at Mama's. It is a small restaurant so there is always a wait but it is well worth it. The fresh baked bread that was used for the French toast is not to be believed. The eggs were cooked perfectly and... More

This place was recommended by my colleague's sister as a not-to-miss. I was a bit skeptical, but we headed that way. We waited in line for an hour, after getting there just before it opened at 8:00 am on Wednesday but it was worth every second in line! My colleague got the French toast and I had the Mama's Cristo.... More

It's a small but super popular place. Be there 7.30 or you need to que for an hour. Once you get in the food is good it's typical American breakfast with a French touch. I was very pleased with my egg Benedict. The food is good but pricy and the que is long. There are actually equally good places without... More

My husband and I were lucky enough to be staying right around the corner from this place and passed by the huge queue on our first day in the city. The next morning, due to jet lag, we were up super early so headed over at 7.30 (30 minutes before opening time) and were second in line. Once the doors... More

Established in 1951.
The family of Mama and Papa Sanchez, serves up traditional and innovative breakfast dishes in "Little Italy", the famous North Beach District in San Francisco. Across the street from the beautiful Washington Square Park, Mama's legions of fans line up early and throughout the day. We use the freshest of local products, imported Italian meats to fill our fluffy omelettes, homemade jam, fresh baked breads, pastries and other delectable dishes. Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
