Plaj offers unusual Scandanavian cuisine in an elegant, calm setting. While the menu is not expansive, courses are divided into 3 categories and all choices are interesting and beautifully prepared.

Good food in a nice ambiance allowing for quiet conversation. I enjoyed the 3 different preparations of herring (Tastes of Herring dish) and the lobster appetizers my husband and I shared as well as my own entree/appetizer Foie Gras with pistachios and prunes. And the...More

This is a terrific place to return (figuratively) to Sweden. Like Sweden, the food is fresh, delicious and rather expensive. The reviewers should realize that if you are sampling extremely fresh fish and top quality game, you are going to pay, especially when the location...More

I can find no fault in Plaj. It's outstanding. The menu is broken into 4 areas which, after a very rough translation, mean "daily special", "land/greens", "sea/fish", "meat". So the 2 of us decided to share 1 item from each "column". The first column, oysters,...More

dinner was good, but our waiter when describing the menu, called the FJORD selections "FREUD". Ordered the fried lefse with jam, which for $20 was way overpriced. 3 small strips of overfried lefse and maybe a tablespoonful of cloudberry jam in a tiny container. The...More

When booking we asked for a specific table, which we didn't get, and no apology was proffered by the maître d'. The waiter came across as patronising, brought us the wrong dishes, and we got another server's backside in our faces while she served another...More

We visit San Francisco several times a year. Ever since it opened this eclectic scandanavian resto became one of the city's hidden gems. We love the charcuterie plate, beetroot salad and homemade princess cake.

what fun and interesting food and drinks. Swedish food and cocktails. We were staying at inn at the opera and it in the same building so we stopped in for dessert after the symphony. Tried to go for dinner the next night but they were...More

Hayes Valley
Chock full of designer boutiques, art galleries, funky
shoe stores, and great restaurants, it’s hard to
imagine Hayes Valley once languished in the shadow of
a major freeway. Its removal allowed for the creation
of an attractive boulevard on Octavia Street with a
community park at its center and dozens of trendy
businesses to satisfy visitors looking for a stylish
respite.
