After a little while of searching for a spot for breakfast in the Mission area we stumbled across this place due to its unique outdoor biking shed and seating. Unfortunately no savoury food but we couldn't simply walk on so stopped for a cappuccino and sat outside. The drinks were served in what seemed like hand crafted clay cups with... More

I was impressed. I expected to be, because the servers I talked to at Blue Bottle Coffee in the Ferry Building (currently #1 rated in the coffee/tea category in San Fran on tripadvisor) said that they regarded Four Barrel as the likely candidate for best coffee in the Bay Area. Arriving there on a Saturday morning, they were roasting coffee,... More

Lattes come and go, but a frothy find is worth noting. I tried their coffee in another venue and found the cafe latte very rich and flavorful so I decided to visit the real deal. I was not disappointed. The tall, dark and handsome barista made an artistic cafe latte with almond milk for me. I paired the hot beverage... More

Loved the interiors of the coffee shop and the roastery at the back is not an everyday find. Just wished we could have witnessed a roasting session. The guy manning the slow bar was very receptive to my questions I learned a lot about the different types and sources of coffee offered that day. Great espresso too!

Fresh roasted artisanal blends done in house. Wide open warehouse with reclaimed wood and industrial design, the cafe has a very modern and hip feel. The coffee is more expensive than your run of the mill corporate offerings however very tasty. They also offer great pastries. A nice place to sit and enjoy a good brew before venturing the Valencia-Mission... More

Seems like every techies in SF converge here daily. Love the coffee here but not so much the crowd, they seem pretentious and full of themselves. The baristas are friendly, and knowledgeable. Just avoid coming here on weekends though, it just takes too long to get coffee.

So this place is INCREDIBLY hipster. Sneered at for asking for soya for a lactose intolerant husband - fine, they have almond milk. No they don't have wifi - which is an odd choice cos as visitors to the US we use wifi to check out where we're going next, wanted a hub to sit in for an hour or... More

I had been searching for a helpful coffee class to take at a local store. Four Barrel offers several classes and you can sign up on line for most of them. I took a 3 hour course that taught a small group the basics to making great espressos. The instructor was terrific and full of good tips and knowledge. We... More

From burritos to bicyclists, the Mission is the foundation for all things hip in the city. Cultural attractions, an independent arts community, sumptuous street murals and a high density of bars and cafes make this neighborhood a magnet for young people. While terrific inexpensive food is abundant, its top-of-the-line restaurants now compete with the city’s best for fashionable diners.
