When I can't get a reservation elsewhere - this place does nicely. It's Cajun themed but I haven't been impressed with any of those dished except for their fresh oysters.

Seems like this place is very popular and gets crowded quickly. I went at that awkward time where it's not quite dinner time yet so it's just full of people enjoying some after work drinks. But I was starving and in need of some good ol' fashion Southern soul food. And it delivered albeit in a stylish, hipster way but... More

We stopped for drinks and a little something and were really excited about the Rockefeller oysters. The half dozen were not consistent in size and at $20 too expensive for what we finally got.

My wife & I had lunch at the Boxing Room on Saturday 9 April. We arrived a little after 12:30 and the restaurant was packed, but we were lucky as a table for 2 became available as we spoke with the receptionist. My wife was set on trying the beignets $8, so she ordered a light lunch consisting of a... More

Located near the performing arts venues it is good for a quick dinner before an opera, symphony or ballet. The food is often fried - a New Orleans characteristic? Nice oysters and efficient service.

The chicken and andouille sausage gumbo and the fried green tomatoes was ok but nothing that we would order again. The service was poor. The waiter barely had time to take or order and give us the bill. And they weren't busy.

Had been here before about a year ago. This visit ordered drinks and appetizers before going to a concert at SFJazz. Cocktails were tasty but expensive and small in volume. Literally 3-4 sips and the drink was finished. And at $14 a pop, that's a pricey accompaniment to appetizers. Food was very good from the Oysters rockefeller, salad, bread and... More

We had brunch there before a matinee at the Opera House. It is right across the street from the Performing Arts parking garage, and one block from the Opera House. The staff was very welcoming. On Sundays they have a jazz trio to add to the experience. Don't miss the Bloody Marys, add spring for the added Chef's Pickles. We... More

We enjoyed very much our dinner at Boxing Room. It is very close to the Civic Center as well as Hayes Valley. We made our reservations on open table for a Tuesday night. We were seated promptly upon arrival in a very comfortable booth seating. Th decor is upscale with some southern touches such as an alligator head. Service was... More

Had a reservation, and placed in center of a main thoroughfare, which was noisy and difficult to hear across a larger then needed table for 4. Also our customer rep/waiter/server/whathaveyou was weird from moment to moment. The food was overpriced and was just average. The grits were the strangest consistency I'd ever tasted, I make & enjoy grits at home... More

Staying in Hayes Valley

Neighborhood Profile
Hayes Valley
Chock full of designer boutiques, art galleries, funky shoe stores, and great restaurants, it’s hard to imagine Hayes Valley once languished in the shadow of a major freeway. Its removal allowed for the creation of an attractive boulevard on Octavia Street with a community park at its center and dozens of trendy businesses to satisfy visitors looking for a stylish respite.
