Ah, the best laid plans : for months we were looking forward to a further return visit to wonderful San Francisco, but had to cut short our stay, to get home before the "Travel Ban" came into effect. All was not lost, however - even...in the all too few days we were in SF, we managed to fit in 2 pre-scheduled visits to "Seven Hills", experiences which put broad smiles on our faces! Let's be clear : after 9 years offering excellent hospitality, "Seven Hills" has MOVED from its original, intimate premises, to a splendid new location nearby (uphill), at 1896 Hyde Street. [Sadly, many Cab Drivers & Uber Operators have not yet got the message, as we discovered - twice!] It took us a little time to adjust to the changed surroundings : comfortable, tastefully-decorated, and certainly more spacious. But the Menu - under the watchful eyes of the same Head Chef, Anthony Florian - demonstrated the familiar flair and taste we had previously appreciated. Over our two nights here, our "Mains" were probably more tasty than our "Starters", although the "Duck Liver Pate" & the "American Wagyu Carpaccio" were certainly adequate. My own "Pork Chop" (the first night), and a "Pork Sirloin" (night 2) were particularly impressive. M (my "Better Half") also greatly enjoyed the "Tagliatelle Bolgnese" & the "Market Fish" on different nights. We shared a Bottle of White Wine each night. The "Merry Edwards Sauvignon Blanc" ($65) was extremely disappointing : the "Carricante, Calabretta" ($64) was absolutely superb. Bread - which is one of my own favourite meal-treats - was, sadly, limited to one "choice", was quite average, and despite prompting by us + promises from him, the Server seemed reluctant to come back with more. "Service", overall was rather "mixed", with attentiveness fairly limited, and - in one instance - a lack of charm, particularly when M requested that she accompany this Server to the Credit Card Terminal (as experienced Travellers, we tend to be careful with Credit/Debit Cards, without wishing to reflect on the integrity or honesty of Staff). And, we must mention a multi-tasking young man, Spencer, who impressed us greatly with his courtesy and diligence, from the time we arrived at the Reception Desk. Of course, one of the highlights of coming to "Seven Hills", is encountering the Owner, Alexis Solomou. From the first time we met him, several years ago, we have been hugely impressed by his dedicated presence, his energy, his friendly (but not intrusive) attentiveness, his clear concern to ensure everyone enjoys their visit to "Seven Hills", and more. We were delighted to meet him again (after an interval of 18 months) : our sincere thanks to Alexisi for his many kindnesses to us, as just occasional visitors to his excellent Restaurant! And, for all of the small criticisms we have voiced here, it's fair to say that the "New Seven Hills", as it establishes itself in its new location, is, indeed, already worthy of being described as "Excellent". We wish Alexis, Executive Chef Anthony + the evolving Team they are assembling here, all the very best - now, in these troubled times, and in the, hopefully, more settled future!More

We were pleasantly surprised by this quaint neighborhood Italian restaurant. We arrived on time and our table was ready and the staff was exceedingly helpful choosing our dishes and explaining the menu. We started our meal with a Sicilian wine that was excellent, followed by...a mozzarella dish that was an interesting twist to a traditional Caprese salad but instead it use citrus flavors, olives and Mandarin’s to garnish the plate. This was followed by a lamb pasta and beef with chimichurri sauce both of which were excellently prepared. We ended our meal with a chocolate mousse that was also excellent. All the dishes were perfectly prepared with great attention to detail. This is definitely a restaurant worth coming back to. It’s unfortunate that although we wanted to have the lamb dish that was the day’s special, they ran out of the of the dish when we arrived but that simply tells you about their high standards and how they develop their menus based on what’s available for the day that is fresh. Bravo!More

Five star service with excellent food. Bread was excellent, best brussel sprouts I've had in a long time. Desert was excellent as well as the pasta.

Friendly staff and the owner is "veramente bello." Reminded me of the the old days 30 years ago when Hyde Street had some real jewels. And if this were a jewel it would be a diamond.

I had squid ink seafood pasta, as a special. It was great, with lots of flavor in the sauce including a touch of smoked bacon. The place is small, and there are not white tablecloths, but the food is really good.

A friend made a reservation here as I was in town for my birthday. It was the perfect birthday treat. From the service from our waiter Tony right through to all of the food options, and the Prosecco, it was a gorgeous meal. I don’t...think I have had a better all-round experience at a restaurant anywhere in many years. Between the two of us we shared the beetroot salad, the meatball starter, the Machronelli and the pappardelle (which was exceptionally good). Were I a San Francisco local, this would be a very regular place to visit for meMore

I just spent a couple of weeks in San francisco and ate in several lovely restaurants in the city but Seven Hills was my favourite as I felt there was thought and effort put into the vegetarian options on the menu. As a vegetarian for...25+ years I tend to avoid Italian restaurants as I often find the options to be unimaginative and overpriced for what you get but the Macheronchelli pasta totally blew me away. It was the best restaurant made vegetarian pasta I have had. Although it was over my budget as I was visiting from Thailand, I found it to be only marginally more expensive than many of the other more casual eateries (restaurants & bars) that I had eaten vegetarian food in. I think this is just San Francisco in general though. The prices for sure are inflated relative to other less touristy cities. Anyway it was a special occasion so it was worth it and I was more than happy that my veggie meal was prepared to such a surprisingly good standard. I would go back and eat there again should the chance arise someday. The place itself is also lovely, upscale but has a cosy feel, The staff were also lovely, welcoming and attentive. I hope to go back someday.More

Black cod special a terrible disappointment because badly overlooked. So unappetising that we had to have truffle pasta afterwards which was fantastic. But it did mean that a three course meal with a (mediocre) bottle of prosecco and two glasses of red wine came to...more than 300 dollars. Where do these guys think they are with these prices? Service good, but this is a joke at these prices. They make London and Paris seem economical.More

It is so enjoyable to have a great restaurant experience. We had dinner at Seven Hills on a Friday night in September before a concert. We were sat a few minutes earlier than our reservation time at the last available table. The restaurant is small...and cute, but not too small (you don't have to move tables to get in your seat). The service from everyone was impeccable from beginning to end. I am constantly perplexed that (very good) restaurants can't get this right more often, but what a treat when they do. For dinner we had the blistered shishito peppers for an appetizer and shared the Maccheroncelli, Chitarra, and Cappelletti. The Maccheroncelli. Wow. What incredible dish. Perfect flavored, perfectly cooked. The Cappelletti was great, and the Chitarra was very good. Really wonderful Italian food. We enjoyed a bottle of the 2015 Barberesco. It was an excellent pairing for the dishes. Quick tip: When you make reservations ask for a table by the front window.More
