Baonecci is a small storefront restaurant with an old family place feel. Service is quick and responsive, and you feel the friendliness of the place and the staff. All their pasta is homemade. That said, there are some significant deficiencies. First, for a place that makes its own homemade pasta, it is a sin to overcook it like they did.... More

We can for a quick dinner and got what we wanted. The pasta dishes were fine, nothing to complain about, but nothing to write home bout.

So based on strong reviews from Yelp and TripAdvisor, my wife and I visited this place on a rainy night a week ago. Supposedly it is delicious homemade Italian food. The place is located right in North Beach, a few doors down from Golden Boy Pizza which I HIGHLY recommend, but this is a sit down, semi-formal place and a... More

Caffe Baonecci is a family run authentic Italian restaurant in the North Beach area of San Francisco. It is VERY small, so reservations are recommended, bordering on required. The food is simply delicious and you can't really go wrong between the pizza, pasta or other dishes. The desserts are wonderful as well. The wine list is small but focuses on... More

This was a Monday evening visit by 6 of us which thankfully had been booked in advance.from around 07.00 pm until 09.00 pm they were turning people away who did not have a reservation. Sited in The Italian quarter of the City just off the main street there was a buzz about the place giving a typical Italian style ambiance.... More

Me and my fiancee walked in without a reservation (found the place on yelp!), and was greeted by the nice Italian owner of the restaurant. All tables were booked, but we were kindly offered to sit at the bar - an offer we accepted :) The restaurant is rather small, but has the feeling of actually being in an Italian... More

Caffe Baonecci is possibly my favorite restaurant in SF - and I estimate that I've dined at 200+ restaurants in the city. If you're two doors down, standing in an hour-long line at Sotto Mare, abandon ship and go to Caffe Baonecci instead! This is the real deal. The atmosphere is cozy, unpretentious, and welcoming. The operation is truly family... More

Fabulous authentic Italian Gem in North Beach!! Four of us passed around every course and each were incredible!!! This coming from a full-blooded Italian! We started with the Bruschetta, Burrata salad & Cannellini beans w/sausage. Then moved to pastas which were incredible--Tagliatelle All Arrabbiata (YUM), Risotto ai Frutti di Mare, Lasagna Casereccia and the Pizza Truffle Salame. OMG. It was... More

We go to SF quite often and wanted to try a place in North Beach since we don't get there much. This restaurant had pretty good reviews so we decided to try it. Recommend reservations on weekend nights. When we first walked in, we weren't sure what to make of it, sort of like a cafe, or like a trattoria,... More

Taste some of the most typical dishes from Lucca that you can only find in Italian houses. Our pizza has become extremely popular in the past five years for its uniqueness, with a style so diverse from other pizzas around the city that you simply must try it if you consider yourself a pizza connoisseur. If you are looking for an authentic culinary Italian experience, you found just the right place. Baonecci offers you delicious and traditional entrees from a Tuscan menu and thin-cracker, mouth-watering pizzas, each one hand rolled for you by Mamma Stefania. Baonecci offers handmade pastas made fresh everyday topped with Stefania's amazing sauces. Everything is made from scratch here. You'll be amazed by the freshness and quality of each plate and you'll be comforted by the friendly Gambaccini family who will make your experience even more "Italiana"!! We know... Our fare is not inexpensive, due to high quality ingredients used for each dish, plus for the love of an Italian woman that puts her heart in every dish that she cooks for you.. As we say in Italian " non si puo avere la botte piena e la moglie ubriaca" "you can't have both a full caraffe of wine and a drunken wife" Buon Appetito!

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
