We came here for a dinner before going to the revitalized Club Fugazi (once home of Beach Blanket Babylon, now of the wonderful "Dear San Francisco"). The staff were very friendly and engaging. Our wine was an Amarone (~$100) that was delicious. Our first courses...were the carpaccio di bresaola - a delightful variation on a favorite of ours, and the tomato and burrata salad. The tomatoes were good, but not fabulous. On the other hand, the burrata was as good as any we have had. Our mains were the tagliatelle bolognese (a richly flavored sauce) and tortelli ai funghi porcini (also with a beautiful rich sauce). It was a wonderful meal overall and would definitely go back - even given the number of choices in the area.More

The service was friendly and accommodating. They do not have any vegan pasta options, everything had egg. But their pizza is very good and others enjoyed the pasta as well

I am a native from North Beach. Just returned home from an absolutely delicious dinner. I had the Buratta salad and Margherita pizza. My husband had the egg plant Parmesan. We both enjoyed the delicious meal and Chianti wine. Family run restaurant- 2 brothers and...parents from Luca. They nailed it. Can’t wait to go back. Grazie!!More

While it is COVID times and serving a great meal can be challenging, I can't say enough about how great our meal was. Incredible food combined with great service. I had the Bolognese and it was just fantastic.

The place is small with max 10 tables; it appears family run and the food was fantastic! We ate pastas - arrabiata, pomodoro, ravioli with cream sauce and all 3 of them were fantastic - so were the appetizers. I would strongly this place if...you're looking for an Italian meal while in Little Italy part of SF.More

The service of this place was absolutely wonderful. The warm welcome and the nice interior made it feel as if you were at home. The waitors made time to talk to all customers. One even went out of their way to run outside and assist...a former customer in taking a group photo of the restaurant, demonstrating an eye for detail and eagerness to help. The food was delicious, both starters, main course and dessert were made with love and an eye for detail. If you are planning on eating italian while in San Francisco, don't miss out on this gem!More

Visited here with someone who lives in San Francisco and describes it as his favourite Italian restaurant. I was doubtful but tried the gorgonzola and pear pizza and loved it!

The food at this small restaurant in excellent, especially the bolognese. Unfortunately can't say the same for the service. Perhaps the servers were less energetic because it was an unseasonably warm day, but 10 minutes to be offered a drink?

This gem of a restaurant was recommended to us by an employee at our hotel. Everything he said about it was true. It is family owned an operated, so welcoming and friendly. We felt like we had known them forever. There was old world ambience....The pasta was homemade, so fresh and delicious. This will be our new “go to” place in North Beach, which says a lot because we a,ways visit North Beach for the Italian food.More

I don't know what else to say. Little hole in the wall out side the main stream of North Beach. Fantanstic thin crust Roman style pizza. Very friendly staff worked hard to make the experieince as good as possible.

Baonecci is about 10 years old though the décor makes you feel they opened many decades ago. It’s probably what makes people feel they are being transported to a different country (well, at least out of SF). It is family run and liberally focuses on...Tuscan cuisine. They say the pizza is so special that it doesn’t get soggy. Well, all the pizza I saw was definitely limp in the center a couple of minutes after delivery. Ah, Italian hyperbole! You might think I’m getting down on this restaurant, wouldn’t you. Not at all; they do exactly what they say they do (hyperboles aside). It’s solid rustic Italian and most of it quite flavorful to boot. Only pasta and pizza here with a single meat main ridiculously priced at 43 USD. Ironically, it’s more of a steak salad than not. Your best bet is the pasta (I didn’t try the pizza). The Arrabbiata was near perfect. The spice level was a cliff’s hanger - stunning. You can also ask for additional ingredients in your pasta like sausage. They may or may not charge you for it -- an added Italian experience. Not everything is perfect. I’d avoid the crostini. The large six piece portion was not crusty and unevenly salted. It reminded me of mother’s leftovers on a hurried day. The wine by the glass list is of random quality and priced as much. The red selection is far better than the whites. Service is relaxed. The boxy room gets relatively loud. The best two tops are the last two on the door-side wall. The 20 or so seat communal table can get oppressive when totally full. Baonecci is a great place in North Beach for uncomplicated but solid Italian cuisine. Mind you, the final tab will still be near the SF standard of 120 USD, inclusive, per person if you make it a feast – nothing really rustic about that.More

I typically find restaurants catering to the tourist market with high prices and marginal food quality. As my mother in law was visiting from out of town a trip to North Beach is always in order. In reading several reviews regarding this restaurant I thought...we would give it a go and we were impressed. Although small inside the noise level was not as bad as we thought and didn't have to shout to hear one another. The service was excellent and the food sensational. I would highly recommend this restaurant to my friends and look forward to a return visit.More

If you're looking for authentic Italian food in San Francisco at a great value you can't miss Baonecci restaurant in the North Beach district of SF. The owners are from Lucca and they bring the tradition of their homeland to SF...great antipasti, a wide choice...of pastas, of which just about all of the pasta is home made....the pizzas are classic Italian...thin crust, great toppings/sauces...the Marema Diavola is a favorite of ours (very spicy)...if you want truly authentic Italian food, this little spot on Green street (just two blocks off Columbus Avenue is the place to go...no frills, just great food. Recently ate here after reading TripAdvisor reviews and boy it did not disappoint! I got the eggplant parmigiana and it was the BEST eggplant parmigiana that I’ve ever had. My husband got the bolognese and it was also delicious! The owners son talked to us...for a while and made us feel welcome. It’s a small restaurant so make sure you make a reservation. My only compliant is that they did not serve any bread with the meal and the portions were a little small but other than that it was perfection!More
