My wife and I moved from Brooklyn to San Francisco about 18 months ago. One thing we missed desperately upon first arrival was that our catalogue of delicious Brooklyn neighborhood restaurants was no longer applicable. For expensive and experiential dining I think San Francisco is easily on par with New York. What we missed were the neighborhood restaurants that were... More

We arrived 15 mins early but this wasn't a problem, were seated very quickly. I was in San Francisco with my mum for my birthday and chose Frances for my birthday dinner. Dinner was fabulous, wait staff helpful and knowledgeable and the wine list extensive. At the end a waitress came out quietly with a birthday treat complete with candle.... More

This was a special anniversary meal in a small neighbourhood restaurant during our trip to San Francisco. The appetisers were delicious especially the applewood balls. The dessert too was especially tasty. The only low point on this otherwise positive experience was when upon discovering that the $55 wine was not included on the bill we told the server. He grunted... More

Service was extremely kind. Fantastic salad (lettuce, zuccini...). The beef was very tasty. Can't wait to go back.

We were really looking forward to trying out France's for a while now. It was most disappointing. The service was really slow. We had to ask for bread and they also forgot to give us the cookies at the end. Still the $4 surplus charge per person was on the bill. This is on top of the gratuity. The tables... More

We visited for dinner and Frances was really good. In short, the menu, the food, the staff and the attention was all very notable. Great portions for a M star restaurant but more importantly wonderful food. A return would be in order.

in town for meetings in the congested business.union square area, happy to head into neighborhood gem. Busy small, but casual place, and table was not ready--no worries--how about a little sparkling wine from the front of the house? Great. Not too long after seated, and had great meal from relatively limited but very strong menu and well-chosen wines and drinks. Bread... More

Several locals had recommended that we try Frances. We were certainly not disappointed. The food and service were excellent. The appetizers were unique and delicious. Must try the chickpea fritters. We split a pasta that was delicious and used fresh local ingredients. Entrees were scallops and pork. Absolutely on point in flavor and presentation. Some of the combinations used seem... More

We came here for our last meal in San Fran before flying back to London. We were lucky to get the last walk in slot, sitting up on stools near the kitchen. I would book in advance if you want a proper table. I was stuffed from a large lunch so I opted for a light starter meal instead of... More

Food very good, wine also perfect. Place is small and need to get there early. Menu not many choices. The concern is the prices of the entrees. Two of us for dinner and wine was with tip almost $ 200.00 There are lots of other places to eat. Look and see if this is best for you .

The Castro
A flourishing commercial area that acts as San Francisco's LGBT community center and cultural heart, the Castro is a neighborhood welcome to everyone. As one of the first predominantly LGBT neighborhoods in the United States and currently its largest, it remains one of the epicenters of activism in the nation. Grand theaters and glitzy shops now compete with bars and fashionable eateries for attention, drawing visitors from around the world to the bright rainbow flag acting as its beacon.
