Staying at the hotel, so came here for brunch Sunday afternoon. Good reviews on tripadvisor, so I thought it would be a slam dunk. First of all, the restaurant is DARK. Dark wood, low lighting and no views. I immediately felt like I walked into a cave. Ordered the huevos rancheros and a coffee, after waiting 10 minutes for the... More

Enjoyed the Meal but definitely a little more upscale than we were looking for. Prices were higher than average and food was decent.

We stepped in around 9pm and ordered from the bar menu which had lots of choices. The kids had delicious chicken pot pies. We enjoyed the tuna tartare, the smoked salmon and the Mediterranean platter. Everything was fresh and delicious with wonderful flavors. The Italian wine was so good. The service was excellent. Attentive staff, knowledgeable, and made great suggestions.... More

Do not miss going to the Big 4. Great food, on form service, awesome atmosphere. We had dinner one night, drinks and nibbles another. The dinner was faultless. Yummy well presented but not too fussy food. Really good service from our waiter. The top thing was the atmosphere – best described as big warm hug. The intimate, no windows, dark,... More

think blue-haired, old fashioned, social-club-like atmosphere. Super fun to come here for a G+T after work. It's not open super late but it's a real Nob Hill treasure.

We had a great meal here. The room was build in the 1970s, to look older. The space is broken up into lots of small spaces, so it feels intimate and conversation is easy as the noise level is pretty low (so is the light level!). We started with shared roasted beets with grilled pear slices, arugula and blue cheese,... More

Dear Wanderdogs, Thank you for your kind remarks. Having just arrived here from Beverly Hills, I liken the BIG 4 to the Polo Lounge. Both are legendary. As some one who was raised in San Francisco, I marvel of the history of this restaurant. We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future. Best regards, Sal L. Abaunza More

This is my go-to spot for before and after a concert at the Masonic. It can be quite busy, you have to be patient, but you get to taste a little bit of Old San Francisco. Food is good, wines are good-to-ok, service is good once you get a seat or table. Loud, noisy fun time with your fellow concert-goers!

Staying in Nob Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Nob Hill
Swanky and stylish, Nob Hill sits in the heart of the city and is home to amazing architecture and views. The hike to the top can be a challenging workout for those who forego a cable car ride, but they will be rewarded with some of the city’s most beautiful architecture adorning its peak. Originally populated with mansions after the Gold Rush, most if not all were devastated in the 1906 earthquake and fire that followed. Luckily all is not lost; storied hotels and Grace Cathedral surround Huntington Park. Having a drink or dinner while taking in the sunset and views at the "top of the Mark" is tough to beat.
