Visiting San Francisco for MLK weekend and was near Pier 39 around dinner time. Normally try to avoid the touristy area eateries as they tend to be way over priced with mediocre service and less than memorable food; however, I must say that that generalization certainly does not apply to the Fog Harbor Fish House. The hostesses were friendly, helpful and polite and explained that there would be a 15-30 minute wait which seemed reasonable for a holiday weekend evening at dinnertime. The wait turned out to be a mere ten minutes. Our server, Gia, was exceptional. She was friendly, knowledgeable, prompt, attentive and went above and beyond to ensure that our dining experience was both enjoyable and memorable. We ordered the Blue Cheese Garlic Bread which was delicious, and at the suggestion of Gia, was able to order an off menu entree of Crab Cakes that came with two sides: I chose rice and sauteed green beans. My traveling companion chose for her entree the Mixed Grill, which consisted of:Grilled Salmon, Pacific cod and Shrimp, citrus beurre blanc, sauteed vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes. The entrees were nicely portioned and BOTH meals were absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced for seafood meals. The Fog Harbor Fish House is well deserving of its many positive reviews. I will definitely plan a return visit on my next trip to the Bay Area and would wholeheartedly recommend this establishment to either locals or tourists looking for a delicious meal at reasonable prices with exceptional service.

We ended up here after a convoy of families in cars touring San Francisco in search of a place to eat on one very rainy San Francisco day.
There were 28 of us and the restaurant was able to accommodate all of us. Yes, it is a bit pricey but the servings are huge, can definitely be shared by 2 people and they taste good.
The first group with my mom who was starving arrived first. We came in second and we ordered calamari and crab cakes for appetizers. For our main dish, I shared the Mixed Seafood grill with my hubby. My daughter ordered clam chowder (something light since she was scheduled to go out with her friends a few minutes after), my son got salad and something else and my youngest daughter got salmon with wild rice and strawberry lemonade. For all that we paid over $175.
The greatest part was we were seated in front of the tv where we can watch the SEA-Niners game. Even if we lost, that's ok. The restaurant was cozy? The server in charge of us was very alert, always checking on is to see how we're doing and how we're enjoying our food.
I used the restroom and it was clean. Once the place is filled, its hard to move around the tables esp if you're in a wheelchair.
The restaurant has a great view of the ocean.. lunch and early dinner would be a great time to visit this place.
Worth coming back again!

First impressions: A
What better way to end a day of adventuring in San Francisco than being on the docks chowing down on some delicious seafood! We made reservations earlier and were seated promptly upon arrival to Fog Harbor. We were lucky and sat directly at one of the best viewing windows directly into the bay. We were able to enjoy the sun setting over the various waves. Our waitress provided us with the most ideal service possible. She followed Covid guidelines, was well-spoken, and made sure to strike up a casual conversation that made us feel welcome.
Food: A-
Being a coastal city with fisherman ports, the seafood was excellent and, more importantly, fresh. The scallops were perfectly cooked with the risotto being a tad bit overcooked for my palate. The beurre blanc sauce definitely made my dish highly appetizing. The other dishes we tasted included the mixed seafood grill. Overall, it was great but the salmon was definitely the star of the show.
Service: A+
Our waitress provided us with the best experience to really create the perfect conclusion to a busy day in San Francisco. Her personality and sincerity really shined above any recent outing we have had recently. There was a slight issue with one of my children's plates that she quickly fixed even though it was to no fault of the restaurant. She is reason alone for giving a 5 rating and not a 4.
Value: B+
With it being San Francisco and on the bay, the cost tends to be higher than other nearby restaurants. In my mind, it is a tax for the ambiance and location of the meal. Definitely worthwhile for that "special meal" that comes around.
In conclusion, Fog Harbor Fish House really shows what chefs can create with quality ingredients. An extremely elegant atmosphere with the charm of the bay coupled with customer service that is far beyond the common fare seen in similar restaurants.

After reading great reviews and seeing the number of people having lunch it was somewhat shocking to be disappointed with what could have been a lovely crab Louis that offered a good amount of fresh delicious crab and tasty authentic thousand island dressing instead of ruining it, by overshadowing it to make it seem larger and justify its high price, by filling the plate with a mound of cabbage, another of red and green peppers and sliced raw mushrooms!! None of which were even mentioned on the menu and would have kept me from ordering what I expect and get when ordering a crab Louis.
Add to this the thick, bland and unmemorable clam chowder, which my husband ordered and who likes mostly all clam chowders he orders, but said he would not want to order again.
Unfortunately the view and warm greeting by hostess did not make up for a most disappointing lunch experience at a restaurant we have been looking forward to try now that we have moved to SF.

The setting is nice, and have window seating that looks out toward the water. Some window tables towards the center and back of the restaurant have better views of Alcatraz. The food is above average especially for Pier 39 (don't get the burger topped with crab though, this was bland and "topped with crab" was a bit of an exaggeration).
My issue is really with the service. I've interacted with about five different people at the host stand now, and each time they are amateurish - unfriendly and seemed bothered that you are there. I never feel welcomed. One time our party had 4 out of 5 people there, with the last person literally five minutes away. They refused to seat us despite the fact that the restaurant just opened and was 90% empty. When they did seat us, they granted our reservation request of a window seat, but gave us the first table in the front of the restaurant in the corner, so the table with the least view. To add context, most of the other window seats were free. They just really did not seem to want us there. The waiter we had was somewhat better, if perfunctory. She was at least professional and efficient.
I like the setting especially for when I am looking for seafood, but it seems silly to frequent a place that is unwelcoming.

After waiting at least 30 minutes when they were not full, the hostess walked us past a nice table by the window overlooking the boats that was waiting to be bussed to a table that was in the back with a window overlooking the adjacent building’s rear that had its cleaning supplies on display. When we asked to be seated at the table with the nice view, she acted like we were the most unreasonable people ever and marched us back all the way through the restaurant, leaving us to sit outside for another 15 minutes during which she proceeded with locking the doors, only acknowledging we were still waiting when we asked. Then when we got to the table and each individually starters, the waiter did not mention that the blue cheese toast was really something for the whole table, not one person. Being the only blue fan in the group, I only had two of the 6 plus pieces. When my cup of chowder arrived, the soup was sloshed all over the side with chunks stuck on the side, making it unappealing to look at. Overall, it was pretty disappointing.

The view and the attentive service covers for the waiting and for the crowd. Their famous clam chowder is too flavorful and rich for my taste. The NY steak I ordered was cooked the way I expected. Make sure to inform them if you do not want want your steak with a sauce (as I prefer) and put the sauce on the side. The lobster on the shellfish tower as well as the crabs are cooked to the right tenderness. The lady server was really attentive and prompt to out requests. Last words... worth a return, next time around.

My husband & were recommended this restaurant by a friend.
We both had the fish mixed grill & shared an apple cobbler dessert.
The food was first class & our server was really attentive & knowledgeable about the menu.
This is however not a cheap restaurant you get what you pay for great if want to push the boat out!

We had Cioppino with an additional couple of lobster tails and were drinking Grand Marinier with coffee. It was delicious base for the soup and the lobster was not spongy or tough. I thought the pricing was a little too high, but down there on the pier I suppose they have to charge like that. Our bill was over $160 pre tip. But it was fun and the bartender and waitstaff entertaining, but I think for 75 less dollars after tipping 20+ percent would have been a perfect ending to a surprisingly delicious meal experience with my lover/homey/friend of many years.

We came here for a later dinner on a Friday night. They got us in right away but I would still suggest call ahead just in case. This is a very busy area in the Pier. Our waiter was very kind talk to us about the specials and what some of his personal favorites on the menu were. Nice selection of wines and cocktails. We each had a dinner garden salad and the vinaigrette was perfect! I had the scallops in risotto and my boyfriend had the filet toped with crab. Both meals were so good. There were families here and wedding reception, groups and couples. If you are looking for a nicer meal at lovely location along the Pier I would recommed this place.

I’m a local and was craving some Cioppino, did some quick research and heard it was good at Fog Harbor, which was close to work that day.
They have a Lazy Cioppino (crack the crab for you and sprinkle the meat on top) & a regular Cioppino (fancier presentation with those crab legs on top!). Wow. Gorgeous presentation, exquisite flavor, and the sourdough rolls... Oh, the sourdough rolls. I had to bring back some extra for the boyfriend to try. The crust on them is perfect.
I was surprised that I could find something of that caliber right on Pier 39, but it was worth it and I’ve been trying to go back with family to share a tasty bowl of Cioppino (it’s a full meal for two). Only complaint: It is *loud* in there. They need some acoustic panels to dampen the noise. It’s painfully loud from all the people talking.

We read positive reviews of this restaurant but initially almost turned back when we saw the crowds on Pier 39
Fortunately this was on the second level with distance between tables & all protocols met.
My wife is a connoisseur of lobster rolls & her order was over the top. It must have contained an entire lobster!
Great service, good food & 2 hours of complimentary parking made for an enjoyable outing. Park in the Pier 39 parking garage & ask to have your ticket validated as $10/hr adds up in a hurry

1. We order half dozen oysters. The server asked us “so you can choose, 6 piece, 12 piece of 18 piece”. So we responded “6 pieces”. He came back with 6 shells and 5 oysters. We asked our server what happened to the missing oyster. Without a word he takes it back and comes back with our full order
2. The oysters were yellow, brown, black. I’ve had great oysters that looked weird/bad. But after our one bite, we had to take it back. It tasted like they ran the oysters under the sink over night.
3. Normally these things don’t bother me but our server brought us the wrong bottle of champagne twice.
To call yourself a seafood restaurant and be proud of it, I expected it to be somewhat decent despite the area being a major tourist trap. How does a missing oyster pass THREE people?!: the shucker, food runner, and the server. On top of that, the server seemed like he already knew how terrible the oysters looked. I have never asked to bring a dish back to the kitchen nor have I ever complained about a restaurant but this is so unacceptable I had to warn others. I wish I could upload pictures to show how terrible it was.

We celebrated my daughters 20th birthday at the restaurant. We originally had reservations for 4:45 on a Sunday and we were running late since we did not anticipate how the Big Bus operation would be that day. The restaurant was able to still accommodate us with a later time. The food was delicious, Mel was very tentative and very helpful in helping us celebrate my daughters birthday.

the service was TERRIBLE
the waiter brought out 3 glasses for a table of 5. One was dirty
Bread was promised but it took another 15 minutes to bring the other 3 glasses and still no bread.
We ordered dinner and it was another 30 minutes before 4 of the 5 dinner plates came out. One of those plates was cold.
A waiter came over and asked if everything was OK and - NO - I am still waiting for my dinner while they have almost finished theirs.
We were never aske about inside or outside seating and we were put outside.
For the prices this resturant is definatly NOT A REPEAT
