I definitely recommend reservations. If you get here and the tables are full, there is no sitting area or bar to pass the time while you wait and you will be stuck standing awkwardly in the doorway. The wait however is worth it. All the food we had was full of diverse flavors and plentiful (you will most likely have... More

We had a takeout vegetarian dinner here for 3 for about $70 . We tried the okra in tomato stew , the vegetable stew, the lentils and the mushroom. The portions are generous and come with an injera bread. The injera bread is a spongy , fermented steamed millet bread. Very tasty and filling . I have only two criticisms... More

This place is delicious and one of my favorite spots in the city. Convenient locations, easy parking, never too long a wait. The veggie combo is wonderful, the lentils are flavorful, the injera bread made of teff is nice and spongy and sour. My friend got the rare beef last time and it was so good. The chicken cubes and... I love Ethiopian/Eritrean food, but can't get it where I live (Augusta, GA). So when we were in San Francisco I wanted to make sure we had some. This place was awesome! The injera is perfect and the veggie dishes are amazing. Perfectly spicy. And the experience of eating Ethiopian/Eritrean food is just like no other! Now I'm just even... More

I just realized that I had never written about one of my favorite SF restaurants, Assab. I know, a lot of people hear about Eritrean cuisine and ask, "Why would I even try that type of cuisine?" The answer: because it's incredible! Although I truly love Indian and Thai food when it's well done, there is something about Assab's cooking... More

Wanted unique. Got unique. Visiting from Hawaii, this was our first experience with Eritrean/Ethiopian food. We ordered the meat combo (chicken, beef, lamb) and vegetable combo (lentils, okra, collard greens, potato and some other items). It was served family style on a huge injera-lined platter. It also came with extra pieces of injera, a slightly sour, flat, spongy bread. The... More

Excellent food, very friendly staff. While they have wonderful vegetarian options, we went with a combination of beef and chicken, which were wonderfully spicy and a great compliment to the side dishes that came with the meal. The injera, the spongy "pancake" was wonderful - light and tasty. I only wish they had more tables for two or a larger... More

Assab is a very small family run restaurant that serves very good and very taste Eritrean food. The lamb and potato dish #8 is perhaps one of my favorites and usually enough to satisfy someone looking for a quick bite to eat off Geary Blvd

A wonderful experience with some spicy and mouth watering food. Suggested by a friend but the visit was worth it. It also has a very warm and ethnic look . A small space which should expand as there was a long wait and it would be good to make prior bookings. It had a great variety of food with unique... More

We have been here a number of times over the last 3 years. We landed here after trying at least 3 other places in San Francisco and have decided to come back here as a staple for Eritrean food. Food: The food is good. There are a large variety of vegetarian dishes, as well as, meat (beef, chicken and lamb)... More
