I took my two boys to Tokyo Tei for lunch. They ordered the Nabeyaki Udon and I had the Shrimp Tempura Plate. My two boys like their Nabeyaki Udon. It came to our table in a cast iron pot, nice and hot. As for my Shrimp Tempura Plate, it came with generous sized shrimp that was deep fried in their... More

There aren't many choices in Wailuku. Locals eat here. Nothing fancy. Only Bud, no Japanese beers. Box B was a good choice including really light tempura.. Teriyaki steak alone just too much fat. Service was really slow for us. Was it because there was a lot of take out orders or we were tourists? Easy to miss from the road.... More

A little out of the way restaurant - you'd miss it from the road.... But turn into a small car park with other small restaurants.... And you'll see it right down the end. Food comes out quick, basic restaurant set up, but service is great. They accommodated our group of 16 well and food all come out with good time.... More

I love the food, service, and prices. Their menu is great. I love the food. I hope they stay in business a long time to come. I will keep coming again and again. Keep up the great food!

I've been going to Tokyo Tei since not long after it opened, so I am probably biased. But there's still nothing like it anywhere else on Maui.............when it's good, it's incredibly good. When it's having a so-so day, it's still better than most Asian places. Tokyo Tei is old school; don't expect fawning service, fancy tables, or silverware. Instead, enjoy... More

Amen to those that say it's not fancy-schmancy. It's in a hard-to-find strip mall off lower main street through Wailuku. Reasonable prices, authentic Hawaiian-Japanese flavors. Mo betta than the restaurants in Lahaina!

I was pleasantly surprised to try this place again! My first experience wasn't so good. This time, the service and food was very tasty! I had combo b ( shrimp tempura, steak, sashimi) $16.50, hubby had combo c ( miso butterfish, tonkatsu, sashimi) )$15.50, kids had chicken katsu. All meals came with tea, rice, miso soup. The food was tasty... More

While traveling in central Maui we wanted to go to a Japanese restaurant. We looked at Yelp and Tokyo TEI had 4 stars so we decided to eat there. The restaurant is hidden in the back wall of the multi level garage, so you can't see it from the street. It looked very run down. As we walked inside the... More

This is my favorite hole in the wall (LOCAL) place for Japanese food on Maui. This is NOT Wailea/Lahaina fancy shmancy...I sat down after my work-out class in my shorts and tank top at 5pm when the place opens for dinner. It is tucked under the garage of an apartment and business complex (Puuone Towers, Lower Wailuku) and right next... More

I have eaten here several times.. the staff is friendly but dining area is small.. The food seems to be made with a little more salt that I prefer.. Big note: this is right near a Korean Bar...some people with smaller children may be a little put off
