we had a late dinner after the arrival at maui island, after check in at the resort. It is located inside the resort, with a pleasant ocean view. We had mahimahi of the day, goat cheese salad and a couple of local beers. Friendly staffy,...recommendedMore

We ate there twice during our stay. The food and service is exceptional and the atmosphere, particularly at sunset outstanding. You will need to book your table several days in advance for prime times.

We had a great meal. The spicy tuna roll, the sushi, and the special of the day (Mahi medallion, shrimp, lobster tail with polenta) were outstanding. We go to Japango a couple of times on our annual vacation and really enjoy the food. The chef...has a wreath next to some of the menu items so you can get a half portion and try more items and share. Great staff. Free valet parking. We enjoyed the Saki flight, it was fun to try different sakis. However the desert was very disappointing, We loved the Malasadas with the three dipping sauces. (Salted Caramel, Chocolate and Guava). The Malasadas now are bigger and not nearly as good . They had to be made from a new recipe, very dense, not airy. They no longer serve the guava sauce. They are using a local estate chocolate and it is not nearly as good. Go for the appetizers and the main meals skip desert.More

What a terrible disappointment! I've been here several times over 5+ yrs so I feel like I know this place a bit. Let's start with the only positive: the location & ambiance are great. The food is average for most dishes, but they have a...few wonderful things that keep us coming back: chow fun primarily. HOWEVER, the service sucks! It's simply terrible. We ordered an appetizer, a salad & chow fun; not complicated. We waited for more than 30 mins for COLD FOOD to arrive, after listening to our waiter make excuses about the "runner system." For F***'s sake, that's the best you got?!?! In all sincerity, Hyatt needs to fix this before turning into just another has been Kaanapali development.More

Every year we can't wait to get back to JapengoHappy Hour:the atmosphere, the food and the entertainment here! Be sure to arrive just as they open at 5 if you want a good place to sit in the limited seating outside...no reservations for this area...only...for the restaurant! The wait staff is excellent, super friendly and full of aloha! This year we enjoyed delicious Cosmopolitans, their wonderful Pupu platter which had curried calamari, Hoisin BBQ ribs, Edamame with macadamia nuts, and coconut shrimp. We loved the shrimp so much we had a 2nd order. Then we also enjoyed steamed clams in a delicious broth!! Topped off the evening with their Poi malasadas with chocolate cause and salted caramel sauce and a mint and hibiscus tea! I'm salivating just remembering this meal! Can't wait to be there again next year!More

Ate here twice, once upon arrival after a long travel day and before departure because it was convenient at our hotel. The place was delicious! Would have travelled to dine here. Had sushi and fish entrees, both excellent as were the cocktails and deserts. Beautiful...sea view with lights at nightMore

If you find yourself at the south end of Ka’anapali close to Happy Hour, don’t hesitate to go to Japengp for great Mai Tais and delicious pupus surrounded by friendly staff and a fabulous view of Lanai. You might want to stay on for supper...to catch the amazing sunset! We especially enjoyed the curried calamari with our Mai Tais. You won’t be disappointed!More

Great atmosphere, scenery, music, drinks, and food. You name it they got it! Everything on the menu is delicious and one must dine here at least twice, otherwise you'll deprive yourself some of the best sushi around!

We have been to Lahaina three times and truth be told dining has always been a challenge for us. There are only a handful of restaurants in the area that we would go back to -- add Japengo to that. We were celebraring our 35th...wedding anniversary , so we were seated outside overlooking the ocean -- private and very romanitc. From drinks to dessert everything was perfect. My wife is a vegan and was able to enjoy a fine dining experience without compromise.More

This was the best meal we’ve had in a long time! We were a table of 8 in a private section. Great service! We started with duck meatballs and seafood pancakes for apps - both delicious (but some thought the consistency was a little weird)....Then our table had Mahi, filet, blackened ahi sushi and the specialty plate with lobster, filet, crab risotto, and asparagus. For dessert we all shared the poi donuts and the layered vocals with macadamia ice cream. Everyone was happy and stuffed. Good portions delicious options. GREAT Hawaiian (not Moscow) mule! Don’t miss out on this restaurant if you’re in the area!More

All of their menus are available online but you need to go through the Hyatt website to see them. There is no posted keiki menu but we saw many families with young children there so there probably are non-published options.
