Travelling along the Road to Hana, stopped at a small cluster of roadside stands, Island Chef being among them. I am usually skeptical of food trucks and roadside businesses in regards to food preparation, quality, cleanliness...etc however there is a posted food inspection with a passing grade clearly visible on the front of the trailer. After a quick look around,... More

My wife and I spent three days in Hana, and after eating the okay food at high prices at the Ranch restaurant, the Island Chef was a welcome surprise. The coconut shrimp was excellent, we had coconut shrimp at three other places while on Maui, and Island Chef's were definitely the best. The prices and food quality was much better... More

The Wok Seared Ahi special was fantastic and so was the Coconut Shrimp! Both of these were just as good as the fancy hotel in Hana at less than half the price!

Stopped in on our way to Hana for a bite to eat and to break up the drive. We shared some fish&chips and coconut shrimp. Hubs still thinks about the massive coconut shrimp and ranks the fish&chips as some of the best on Hawaii. Love all the sauces that come with the feast- definitely get the hot sauce. Service was... It was just ok and pretty pricey for a roadside stand. I had the coconut shrimp, which looked really great but turned out to be mostly breading and very tough to chew. $20 isn't crazy for coconut shrimp, but for this quality it is. My wife had the ahi fish and chips and they were fine, just nothing special (about... More

I never thought I'd ever willingly purchase food out of the back of an old bus, but I did just that at Island Chef. I ordered beef and broccoli and the portion was huge! There were a lot of people ordering the coconut shrimp. It looked great, but seafood is not my thing so I went with my choice. For... More

Not many restaurant choices of along the Road to Hana. We stopped at the 29 mile marker and tried this place. Food was prepared well, tasty, and a little pricey for what it was but I guess finding decent food out in the middle of nowhere is somewhat of a blessing... We had the Hana Beef with rice... good taste... More

What a great stop on the road to Hana! The gal cooking was super nice and the food was really Ono. We had the chicken chow mein and fish and chips and practically licked both plates clean. Nice seating area reserved for this stand was very welcome. The only negative was the price. I didn't expect to be paying $15-20... More

The chef cooking up our fish and chips was extremely nice. Everything was fresh and cooked to perfection. Best place to eat at the end of the Road to Hana!

There's not much to choose from out there on the road to Hana. We had actually made a goal of eating at the barbecue place next to this place, but it was closed, so we ate here. a place Lonely Planet rated highly. Meh. No disrespect to the lady running the place, who was working hard and serving decent food,... More
