Made reservations many weeks in advance as I heard this spot books up fast! This restaurant is just LOVELY in every single way. A giant koi pond surrounds and we had a great view of the fish. I ordered the mac crusted mahi mahi and...husband had thr opah fish. Both dishes were seriously soooo tasty. We saved room for pineapple upside cake, which was also very tasty. Look forward to returning one day!More

Booked reservation weeks ago. Could only get 5pm. So ok. Arrived a few minutes early...after a longer walk down flights of stairs...a caution to those less mobile. Sign said restaurant opens at 5, yet there were no several groups seated in the bar room area...already. Was told to wait 10 min or so. Walked over to bar, fully wanting a dry gin martini. But there were no martini glasses on the bar. Bartender only offered the gin lemon menu martini so we ordered wine. For dinner, initially seated at a table in the setting sun. Got moved to a shady table. Derek was server. Excellent Caesar salads with fresh anchovies. My entree was filet. Well prepared but veg needed more cook 🍳time. Could not cut brocolini or baby carrot with steak knife. Fingerling potato also uneven. Some bites soft others obviously underdone. Hubby's surf and turf better execution . Pretty atmosphere, but then we that long slog back up with to the lobby...More

We've been going to Kauai for 10+ years, and we love Tidepools! The food is excellent, the service great, and the view is awesome. Fine dining at its best!

We stayed at the Grand Hyatt Kauai and were somewhat saddened that we could not get a reservation here. We spoke to the concierge who told us to show up right at opening at 5 pm and see what we could arrange. We were able...to get a reservation for two nights later. We had some special dietary and other requests and they were more than happy to accommodate them. The meal itself was magnificent. The setting is idyllic--on the edge of an artificial coi-filled pond on the Hyatt's beautiful grounds. The wine was delicious and the food plentiful and tasty. No complaints at all. Staff recommendations on what to order were spot on. Our server was very friendly. He is a long-time employee and knows how to provide a great experience. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Made for a memorable evening!More

We had dinner here this evening. Had the Caesar salad, Hamachi Sashimi, Filet Mignon and the Opah dish. My husband's filet was on the raw side, he said it would have been nice if it was cooked more. I enjoyed my Opah dish. Everything was...great except the fish was not heated through. The flavors went well together, loved the sweetness with the fish and potatoes. Unfortunately we didn't have room for dessert. Service was fabulous, our waitress was attentive and on it. We were lucky to get a table without a reservation but was seated in the bar area.More

Ribeye was amazing, portions large. Nice bar. Amazing views (eat at 6 for the sunset!). However, we only found 1 entree each that we liked, so didn't return. Don't be discouraged by Open Table appearing booked forever, just walk up early and they probably have...a cancellation.More

This restaurant has it all--well-prepared food, attentive service, good drinks and simply beautiful location. We had our best located table ever on our October 3 visit, at the end of the room, facing the lagoon ahead and on the left as well, with the windows...open and the koi playing. Ron, our waiter, was very helpful, and at the end of the meal when I expressed my wish for a mac nut liqueur and brandy coffee did produce it. Two other restaurants were out of that liqueur, butTidepools had it. We love the mahi mahi with banana-mac nut sauce and papaya-avocado relish and ordered it once again; I had the Hawaiian Catch this time; the seafood was excellent, though I told Ron I couldn't taste the lemongrass and suggested that broccolini might not be the best vegetable for that sauce. Wonderful macadamia nut tart and chocolate lava cake. In the past we have loved the poke and sashimi and grilled and chilled seafood. The wine by the glass list is small but excellent.More

Kauai is home to many wonderful restaurants , however Tidepools takes the best restaurant for seafood , cocktails , dessert and service catagories every year hands down. Expensive but delicious and oh so worth it! You won't be dissapointed. I do recommend advance reservations before...you leave the mainland .More

Ordered the specialty. “Hawaiian Catch”. Combo fish entree. Tuna came out brown which lead me to believe it was not seared but cooked in the oven. Suppose to be served rare. Was medium to well done. Waiter agreed Sent it back. 2nd tuna was fully...striated so bad could not cut it with a knife. Sent it back. Chef came out and served it. Commented that if sashimi grade ahi should be able to cut with a fork. Chef commented that was only if cooked through. Yeah. That is what the chef commented. Astounded. Wife ordered Oprah. Came served with lump crabmeat but Oprah was over cooked. Like a well done swordfish. Dry as well with no sauce. Oprah tends to like to absorb sauce and flavors but this was just with crabmeat. Bland. And dry. So heed the warning. Great view. Good service. Terrible chef. And the chef was on that night.More
