Our dinner here was hugely disappointing. It took an hour to get our food. The ahi was so overcooked that you would never know it was fresh fish. Drinks were imaginative but watered down. We were not the only unhappy ones. The table next to...us canceled their order and walked out after waiting too long. Used to love this place but won’t be going back any time soon. On the plus side the spicy tuna roll appitizer was good and our server was friendly and did apologize for the long wait. But that didn’t excuse the food prep or the wait.More

We've been frequenting The Dolphin Hanalai (a favorite) for years, now. But, this time, we stayed in Poipu for our first vacation to Kauai since 20 19. We were delighted to find The Dolphin has opened an offshoot in Poipu. What a terrific addition to...Kauai's South Shore. We started our meal with an appetizer of their amazing sushi, then proceeded to order the fresh fish ( Hapi and MahiMahi), grilled with a lemon butter side. Meals were pretty good. Piece of fish came out almost completely raw. Restaurant took care of it immediately. Waiter was outstanding - 5 star. Very good dessert

Amazing, fresh, quality sushi!!! The calamari was a real steak, not the bar style fried rings and tentacles. The fish melted in your mouth. We really appreciated the complementary edimame, and it was steamed perfectly crunchy. Our waitress was having a rough night. Maybe because...it was really busy and she seemed to be new as she didn't know the menu well. She brought us stuff we didn't order and charged us for it, then disappeared at the end of the night. I had to go to the bar to pay. The manager was very helpful and adjusted the bill. The food was so good that none of the hiccups mattered.More

Possibly the best sushi I’ve ever had! Great service, great ambience, and great food. Definitely recommend. We originally had reservations tonight at another restaurant, but canceled after plans changed. Happened upon this spot and were lucky to nab a table without a reservation.

We made reservations for Christmas Eve and were able to be seated earlier than our designated time. The service was excellent and the food was delicious and fresh. The poke appetizer was top notch. All the fish is fresh. The macadamia nut brownie for dessert...was a definite “yes” to end the meal.More

We celebrated our 53rd anniversary at the Dolphin and came away impressed. The ambiance; up scale casual/beach; fit the vibe of Kauai's beautiful the South shore. We were very hopeful about our last dinner in Kauai on a Saturday evening with our young daughter. Overall, some of the staff is just not well trained. We arrived 15 minutes late for our reservation but called to let them know. When we arrived...the host said our table would be ready in 5 minutes and we should go shop. 2 minutes later I got a text saying our table was ready when we had gotten to a store. Service was slow for us when others seem to get food no problem. We got our dinner about 30 minutes after we ordered. I asked for a container for our food twice and had to get up and ask another server for a container do we could get our daughter home for bed. Overall food was okay, but our last night in Kauai was left sour by the experience. We will not be back here. Ever. I suggest the poke/sushi food truck in Koloa and make your own cocktail.More

Came in with friends without reservations. They were very accommodating. The staff was friendly. Great service. Good food and cocktails. We especially like the stuffed mushrooms. Had to order more! We will be returning.

Went there for a 5:45 PM reservation (they open at 5) and they were out of all their main fish entrees. Drinks were sub par. Service was marginal at best. Sushi was decent but shockingly expensive. I honestly don't understand how this place is getting...4 star reviews on average. How on earth can they be out of main fish entrees 45 minutes into the evening? Our waitress was clueless about everything on the menu. This meal cost us $280 USD - that's almost $400 CDN. That's just shocking for what we got. And on OpenTable they suggest that it averages $30 pp. Not even CLOSE! We had one drink each, split two appetizers between the 4 of us, and had 2 entrees and 3 sushi rolls. Brutal.More
