These guys recently opened with great success — it’s a winna!
The coffees are delicious and so is everything else (scones, cookies, cinnamon & sticky rolls & much more...) they’re a great addition to Kapaa town.
I typed in "poke" to the maps app on my phone, and ended up here. The place was fairly busy but the staff were incredibly efficient. I chose a salmon poke bowl. I made the right choice. One of the best things I ate in...all of Hawaii. I want to go back just so I can try all the other fish. Coming from Sydney, these poke bowls are very different to how they make them here, so so good.More
Pono Market is hoppin’ from the time it opens at 6 am. This is the place to go to grab your poke (several varieties) to go, sushi, or anything else that looks good in the deli section. It’s also reasonably priced compared to other places...in the island. You know it’s good when it’s where the locals go. Mahalo!More
After reading all the rave reviews we were very excited about getting a takeout lunch from Pono Market. We both got brown rice with half sesame ahi poke and half spicy poke, plus a bento box. Both poke versions were bland and unexceptional. The first...was fine, but had little flavor. No sesame flavor at all, and very little spiciness to the other version. Chicken in bento box was good, but not exceptional.More
This place is highly recommended and it did not disappoint. They have a great variety of plate lunches. We choose the one item with 2 scoops rice and one side. So reasonable at $7.50. The Kalua pig was excellent, flavorful, juicy, tender and filling. the...Macaroni Potato Noodle salad is seasoned just right with the right amount of creaminess and cooked properly. It goes well with the pork. The two scoops of rice help balance the salty flavor of the pork and soak up the pork juices. The place gets busy and a line forms, but the staff work fast and you out with your food in no time. Their table space is limited, so better to take the food and go to the beach. They take credit cards, big plus for such a reasonably price place. This area of Kapaa is well worth a visit, especially to grab a plate lunch to go. They also sell all their entrees and sides by the pound if you are getting food for a larger group or just need some great food for dinner.More
lined up out the door and we seemed to be the only island visitors! Friendly locals were happy to help us navigate the selection of mostly mysterious choices and options.
Takeaway is a good option.
Food was interesting, not particularly healthy but it is a...vacation, right?
Probably would not eat there regularly but so glad I went and would certainly go again.
My families favourite place when we are on vacation at the Pono Kai. If you like authentic Hawaiian food, order the plate lunches. The Lau Lau order the loco moco breakfast plate. The poke bowl is also very good.
