This is one of the best restaurants on Kauai. Food is excellent service is excellent and ambiance is good. We had the trilogy of fresh fish. Delicious. The ribs for appetizer was falling off the bone. Delicious. Highly recommend. Call and make reservations at least...2 weeks in advance.More

The food was delicious, the service was pretty good although we didn’t see our server between getting our entrees and finishing them and he said he would stop by halfway to see if we wanted the dessert that takes 20 minutes to make. The chocolate...exploding cake was delicious but was expecting a little warmer chocolate coming out of it. The steak was cooked perfectly, the sweet potato ravioli was different from what I’ve ever had before and didn’t remind me of a sweet potato but was enjoyed it. Our server recommended we dip our bread in the ravioli sauce so we did that and asked for a second order of the complimentary bread which took 15-20 minutes which seemed odd, had asked them to not take the plate so we could use the sauce. Had great views too. Must book this early. We were lucky to get in day of because we were willing to wait. Space is limited and they do mainly reservations so we showed up at open at 5pm and they told us we could get a table for 2 at 630 which was fine. A couple ahead of us was enraged they couldn’t get in right at 5 when they didn’t have a reservation and threw a fit instead of waiting. My partner enjoyed Wally’s salad and loved the dressing. I enjoyed my fisherman’s soup before my filet Mignot. Partner enjoyed the pesto lasagna which tasted really good and was a decent portion.More

Reservation recommended as we always have to wait up to fifteen minutes to get our reserved table. Food is excellent and fresh. Their prime rib is excellent (can run out later in the evening) and fish entrees are also a good choice.

Very pleasant, nice ambience and our fish dishes were excellent but at $39 were a bit pricey. We had even better ones at another nice place for $25 which set a bar for the places we ate latter. However, for a special occasion the ambience...is probably worth the extra cost.More

We ate here twice during our stay since we own a condo next door. Always eat here during visits and did not disappoint. Great selection of wines, along with daily fish specials. Great service …. Not rushed and save room for molten lava cake. A...perfect way to end a day on KauaiMore

Thoroughly enjoyable, delicious meal - knowledgable waiting staff, good service, it even has white tablecloths!. In a holiday where finding quality food was a challenge we were sorry we had not booked a table here earlier. Tender beef and utterly divine cinnamon ice-cream were top...picks for us, but this was easily the best-meal in our three week trip. While it is more expensive than many, Hukilau Lanai offer great value for a stand out experience.More

Decor/location: We sat “in the garden” amidst tiki torches; ambience was lovely as evening came. Don’t let the mundane resort “lobby” fool you upon entry; beyond that, it’s a wonderful space, especially outside. Menu: Covers seafood, beef, chicken, pork, pasta & vegetarian. Like that a...salad or soup is included with entree. Service: Impeccable. Quality: The lobster bisque was superb, as were the mixed grill & “Wally’s Steak Crown Royal” entrees. Cocktails were potent and delicious. Portions were generous. Value: Very, very good. Glad we made our reservation well in advance. Probably one of two best dinners , if not the best dinner on Kauai during our week-long stay on island.More

As others have alluded-don’t be dissuaded by the typical hotel entrance -and the 80s ballroom vibe- of the open air seating area because the food is surprisingly good. All entrees come with a fresh salad or soup and homemade focaccia bread. My prime rib was...large enough to share and very tender. What sets this place apart are the little touches that add up: salad dressings that are made in house, made from scratch pasta for Italian dishes, freshly caught local seafood, mango infused brewed ice tea, daily special desserts, etc. Food comes out piping hot and portions are large. Typical resort pricing of entrees in the $25-$40 range. Make reservations and request the smaller, garden courtyard seating area for slightly better ambiance.More

We made reservations a couple of weeks in advance. It was definitely the nicest restaurant we went to on our trip. They were very cognizant of gluten free issues. They had a gluten free menu ready. The ribs were delicious. The tomato gazpacho was a...little spicy, but was definitely balanced by the sorbet. They even had gluten free bread which was a nice touch. I had the prime rib and my husband had a mixed grill seafood dish. I couldn’t finish the prime rib. It was a little more rare than I had expected and was already stuffed. Great place if you want a nice meal.More

The entrance is through the hotel and I was worried I just walked from one hotel to another to get a hotel meal. But the Hukilau Lanai fooled me - it was an excellent meal with pretty good service. The waiters seem to be rushing...around - I thought we still got good service despite maybe a lack of waiters. When another couple left, they were raving about the vegetable lasagna, so I ordered it. It was a really large portion and very tasty - they were right! My husband got the lobster bisque which he didn't even leave me a taste - he loved it. My mother ordered one of the fish specials (I can't remember what it was) but she enjoyed it. My dad's filet was excellent and cooked to specification. All entrees come with a salad which was a bonus. We were so excited about eating that I forgot to take pictures of all of the dishes, but trust me, this was one of our top meals.More

This place deserves it high ratings. The service (Briana) was amazing and offered opinions when asked (this vs that). The presentation of food was very inviting: Apps - Lobster Curry Bisque (5) - great taste, a touch of heat. Temperature was perfect, not too hot,...not tepid. Would order again. Also order the Calimari. The dipping sauce was great, I like my cruch to my calamari but that is preference and not a knock on their less than crunchy version. (4) Me - I took the special a chicken and fish "duet" - Ono and Chicken Thigh with Chorizo fried rice. Was tasty and I would order again, I cleared the plate (5) She - the mixed grill - three types of fish - Mahi Mahi, Ahi and Ono (5). With a coconut curry sauce and orzo. Very well balanced - the fish cooked to perfection. Had dry Mahi Mahi a few times on Kauai (culinary blasphemy) but this was best cooked so far. Other fish just melted in your mouth. Finished by splitting a Macadami Nut Tart with Lampert's cinammon ice cream (5) Yum, not too large (mentally had to make room) and went well with the brewed Kona coffee we paired it with. Setting also nice - it was night though - don't know if there is a view but it is definitely a well run operation.More

The entrance area is less than impressive with a timeshare vibe; however once we were seated the tables were fairly private and quaint with linens but no ocean views. Now for the good part. The fish chowder was amazing! My spouse ate prime rib which...was a large portion and tender. I had the Hawaiian fish special with three varieties of white fish. This was the best food I had across all islands. Service was prompt, respectful and professional. The picture was taken after I already started to eat my dinner.More

I can concur with the justifiable excellent ratings for Hukilau Lanai. It is a splendid restaurant with excellent food drinks and a genial group of servers and bar tenders. Sitting in a green lawn area with twinkling tiki lights with the ocean on the horizon,...this is a very pleasant space. The food specials change nightly and the menu covers all the bases. Tropical drinks and wines fill the rest of the menu. The desserts are quite spectacular, too. All this and at very keen prices. I guarantee you will enjoy your evening at the Hukilau.More

Our excellent experience at this restaurant began with the hostess who helped us find a time to reserve (online reservations were full). Our server, Jessica, was professional, friendly and attentive. Her service re established our appreciation of Kauai. We had some difficult experiences prior to...our meal at Hukilau Lanai. The food was well prepared, delicious and served at appropriate intervals. The grilled mahi was wonderful; the chicken and mahi combo was terrific and the candied ahi was probably the best starter we have ever tasted. Do not be discouraged by the fact that the restaurant is on the premises of Wyndham resort. This is a top notch place and amazingly the prices are moderate.More

I second the advice of another traveler to just call them and ask. Since the restaurant is part of a resort complex, I would be amazed if it did not operate on Christmas Day. But it might offer a buffet or some other type... More
