Very enjoyable dinner to celebrate our anniversary while we were on a. Cruise. Arrived early to enjoy walking around the grounds. We saw they had a Hawaiian musical duo and requested to sit in the “bar lobby” area so we could enjoy them, so lovely...to sit by the open air window and watch the evening decend and the torch lights come out, The food was delicious and loved trying the entree with the three different kinds of grilled fish. Good vegetarian options. Our service Michele was sweet enough to bring more focaccia when I asked, Our desert came with special plating!More

It had been years since we were last here for dinner and it seemed that the restaurant was newly reopened after Covid. Reservation was 7:00. The waiting area was small, awkward, and part of the hotel lobby. When we were finally seated in the restaurant...the service was fairly quick and responsive. Couldn't help feeling that the Hukilau was attempting to be upscale but not quite making it. There was live music that ended not long after we were seated. There was nothing about the atmosphere that set it apart as being special. We ordered Candied Ahi and the special appetizer of the day as our appetizers, and filet mignon, Mahi Mahi and a chicken dish as the main meal with creme brûlée for dessert. The food was very good and the service friendly but very casual. In many ways it felt like dining at a local family restaurant but with much better food. The restaurant closed at 9:00 and we had the feeling that the staff would like us to leave as other tables were reset for the next day as we finished our meal.More

Reservations two weeks in advance is a must if you want to get a specific time. Our group ordered a variety of entrees and they were all very good. It's pricey, but everything is delicious so I felt we got our money's worth. I had...the three fish entree and discovered after the fact that one of the fish was a "Walu" aka Escolar fish, which if eaten in larger quantities can cause gastrointestinal issues. Fortunately, each piece of fish was only 3 oz but I was a little concerned about it. I didn't have any issues though so all is well. And, I have to admit, it was extremely delicious.More

Nicely done private dinner for a business function. I’d come back alone to this eatery. Food was well prepared with reasonable service for a larger party of 20+ folks. However, I understand the prices are high.

While in Kapaa, we wanted to go out for one really nice dinner to celebrate hubby’s 70th birthday. Read reviews and decided to make a reservation here. The food did not disappoint! Hubby had steak and said it was perfect. I had the mixed grill...- my oh my good! Ono, Mahi Mahi and Marlin. Delish! Wine was good, Wally’s salad was very good and not too large. Foccacia and dip nice too. Our only complaint was that our table for two was directly across from the wait station. All the servers drop off the dirty dishes and food is delivered to the station. Felt a little like we were seated in a hallway with all the traffic. If we go again, we will request a table on the lower level.More

We made a reservation for dinner (definitely needed as they are busy!) and we not only had a great server, Michelle, but the food we were served was very well prepared! We were very impressed! Michelle not only did a great job in making recommendations,...but she was attentive without being too much so, and her pointing us to the special of three kinds of fish was a great choice. We both had it and the three fish were ono, marlin, and butterfish. Each was prepared very nicely. I had rice rather than the creamy orzo that had dairy products in it, and the "Thai chili-coconut sauce" used on the fish and rice was absolutely exceptional! I asked for extra sauce, and it was brought to me. The rice soaked it up nicely!! The "local greens" with mac nuts was also a good choice for a salad, and the bread that came with it was quite good.More

Everything was wonderful. The bread, the salad (Wally), the filet, the coconut cheesecake. I’m not even a fan of coconut. All of the food was delicious. I didn’t love the soursop flavored margaritas. Perhaps an acquired taste, but was marketed on the Kauai travel channel....That was not for me. Highly recommend.More

We always search for the best restaurants any new place we go and this one came up. I was worried about the menu because it was smaller than some but that’s because they have perfected everything on that menu. We ate here 3 nights in...a row!!! It was that good. We sat at the bar the first night with John (he is excellent btw) and ate dinner. You should try to get a reservation but if not go at 5 and sit at the bar. We loved the macadamia nut torte with the cinnamon ice cream and the creme brûlée was delicious. My mahi mahi the first night was super good. All and all when we come back it will be the first place we make reservations for!!!More

This remains my favorite restaurant pretty much anywhere. You can really really tell that there is still passion and love happening in the kitchen, and we have always enjoyed our meals here. Our recent was no exception... its great, and when you consider the freshness...and care that goes into the meals coupled with the beautiful views from the Lanai and excellent music if Pancho Graham is playing in the Bar, well, it just doesn't get any better than this! I was alarmed and saddened to hear that the owners (one of which is the head chef who still works the kitchen) are getting towards retirement age and thinking of finding new owners. As much as these people deserve a happy and relaxed retirement for their tireless efforts to share their talents with residents and visitors alike, I am deeply saddened to hear that they are considering this and I really hope we get back to this great place before that happens and anything changes!More

11.3 years later...the food, service and ambience are still awesome! And yes this will be one of your splurge dinners(unless you're a rich golfing yuppy this this is probably normal?). Make a reservation at least a week in advance, Hukilau Lanai is popular! Before the...entree prices freak you out, keep in soup or salad is included! This might be the last vintage, classic, old school restaurant that still does this in Kauai, maybe all of Hawaii, or the whole world? Prices were about $15ish dollars cheaper 11 years ago, but that's life! $37 Bottle of White Wine...I can't remember the brand, but it was cold, crisp, fruity, refershing, and less than $40! There are also a couple other choices under $40 as well. $43 Hukilau Mixed Grill...three different grilled fishes: ono, marlin, mahi? Each seasoned differently, each grilled perfectly, juicy, tender, flakey, and delicious! Don't let the "Thai curry" scare you...it's a mellowly spiced golden sauce, that is not spicy, but packed with flavor. For the soup, I paid the $3 upgrade to get the Lobster bisque...creamy, flavorful, but no chunks of lobsters. $43 Mahi Mahi...the wife let me have a tiny bite...tender, flavorful, and delicious! $13 Macadamia Nut Tart...think of this as the Hawaiian version of Pecan Pie, lovely! The housemade cinnamon ice cream packed a punch, and paired perfectly to the tart.More

7:30pm. was the earliest reservation we could get and we were on a tight time line as two people had to catch a plane. We let our waitress, Sheylah, know when we needed to leave by, and she provided outstanding service! From the complimentary bread...to the crème brûlée, the food was done to perfection and delicious. We heartedly recommend the gazpacho soup, the mushroom meatloaf, filet and fish. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. And, a special shout out to Sheylah and the staff for getting us out on time. We’ve been before and definitely will be back.More

Greatness! The evening started off kind of wired as one of the hostesses was kind of rude. And the bar area was awkward. We wanted a glass of wine one as we waited for our table but was told we could not order at the...bar without a seat, but all the chairs were taken! But once we were seated, Sandra our server, was so gracious and helpful, we soon forgot our other issues! We ordered calamari, Caesar salad, lobster bisques, steaks and lava cake and it was all delicious! Great job guys.More
