We’ve had many delicious breakfasts at Kalaheo Cafe over the years but this year, we decided to try dinner there. It was so good, we went back the following week. On Friday and Saturday nights, they have a wonderful ribeye that was perfectly cooked. My...husband loved it and there was enough for another meal with the leftovers. Based on the helpful recommendations of our delightful waitress, Carolyn, who we enjoyed on both visits, I had the turkey meatloaf one time, then the Thai curry the other time. Both were great! Their desserts are also terrific.More
Be prepared for some very colorful conversations. On several occasions diners swear and talk story very inappropriate for a public setting. When brought to the attention of the server on my last encounter thinking the table may have been regulars (felt very comfortable using the...term haole) I was met with ambivalence. I did call when I got home and spoke with the manager.
When I first arrived in Kalaheo I took a phone call on speaker and was congratulating my cousin on her new home on The Big Island. On my next visit....I was asked to eat outside. The manager said people are very unaccepting of cell phones in the dining room. Well, I’m 63 and was having a perfectly normal conversation with a family member about a milestone event in her life... not going into detail about my recent gynecologic examination, swearing and using ethnic slurs. They should have been asked to tone it way down.
Unfortunately for haoles there are not many breakfast opportunities here. Their art work, food and coffee are great but the atmosphere continues to make me very uncomfortable.
The manager said she would look into it, but I felt she just wanted to get off the phone. Just for reference... I spend about a 50 - 100 haole dollars a week there.
Not any more.More
So glad this excellent quality cafe is back open and surviving (the over publicized virus craziness). Thank goodness this locally owned small business is brave enough to keep going! We enjoyed a lovely lunch of wraps, soup including corn bread muffins cut in half and...buttered while actually sitting down at an outdoor table for as long as we wanted out on their lanai. Also, we splurged on their hot drink specials that changes daily. YUM!!! We will continue supporting locally owned cafes and shops.More
My husband and I stopped here on our way to explore the south shore. The food was delicious! I had the turkey melt and my husband had the classic club. We shared herb fries and the coconut cake for dessert. our whole meal was incredible...as was the fresh bread for sandwiches!More
We enjoyed this restaurant overall, for the atmosphere as well as the service. Most food items were excellent, and we really enjoyed the brocolli cheese soup as well as several entrees. However, the ribs were terrible... tough and rubbery and you just can't eat them....Get anything else.More
Park on the street if you have to, this place is great and the wait is worth it! The food was incredibly fresh - I had the turkey sandwich on croissant with a local kombucha and for something so simple, they really know how to...do it right. Perfect lunch spot!More
