Kilauea Lodge and Restaurant, located in the quiet village of Volcano, sits on 5 acres of gardens and gazebos and native forest. This hotel restaurant features a large fireplace, local art, koa tables, and is open nightly. Chef/owner Albert Jeyte blends flavors from his European background with farm, ranch and seafood products from Hawaii, the surrounding Pacific and elsewhere.

Volcano Village is at 3700 feet elevation and evenings are often cool and misty. The historic fireplace welcomes guests with it's cheery fire. Home made soups and breads tease the appetite. Albert specializes in unusual game...venison, antelope, rabbit, duck. The biggest sellers are local fish dishes; ahi, ono, mahimahi and the exotic Tristan lobster. A large wine list complements the eclectic menu.

Great lunch stop

We ate here for lunch a couple years ago, and looked forward to visiting again this year. We found the same good food, great service in a nice, comfortable setting. I chose the fresh fish sandwich with a side salad. It was an ample serving of fish and a nice size fresh salad. We will return next... read more

We ate here as part of an all-day volcano tour with Kailani Tours. When we signed up with the tour, we selected from steak, fish or veggie choices. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were offered a choice of 3 preparations for the fish--catch of the day was ono. We were served fresh bread and lovely salad. The entree... More

Mahalo! I'm pleased you enjoyed yourself. The Kailani Tours group is always very welcome at the Lodge as they are considerate and have superb guides. It's a real pleasure to see them come! aloha Lorna More

We were so excited to be going back to Volcano and even happier that we were going to eat lunch at the Kilauea Lodge, as we had a number of excellent meals there previously. Sadly, it was a huge disappointment. The place was almost empty. Maybe 4 or 5 tables occupied. We were promptly shown to our table and then... More

Aloha. Your review was disturbing and I tried to piece together what occurred that day. We do have a few new servers in training but that is no excuse for being ignored. I wish your comments could prompt more action on management's part but without more details I am only guessing. I will show your comments to our daytime servers.... More

Dinner at the Kilauea Lodge Restaurant was included as a part of our Viator volcano tour. Normally we don't expect "included" meals to be anything special but this was an exception. We had some nice cocktails followed by a local seafood dish. The food was excellent. The decor had a lot of character and was definitely rustic to match the... More

Aloha and Thank you. Yes, Albert won an Emmy in his previous career...he was a make-up artist in Hollywood. We bought the Lodge on our honeymoon in 1986 and he decided to change careers. He is now the Chef. BTW, anyone getting married and wants to purchase a Lodge in Volcano, we are ready to retire as soon as we... More

While still a lovely place for a traditional 3-course dinner, the menu seems a bit heavy for today's more health-conscious diners. The antelope was interesting and delicious. The eggplant vegetarian option was less inspiring. Service was warm, friendly and attentive despite a full house. Wine choices were good, and more extensive than expected in a small tourist area near the... More

Thank you! I have been telling Albert that this dish needs updating and he needs another vegetarian hot option! He is a European Meat Guy and it's hard to get this kind of advice through to him! I read your review this morning, out loud, and he is now inspired to finally revise the eggplant dish so it's not too... More

We shared dinner here with a group of friends and found the menu to be interesting and varied. Something for everyone. Service was friendly and attentive and the food beautifully presented. The dining room is beautifully appointed with a lovely 'old Hawaii' feel. Worth a return trip some day.

Really interesting décor. Was apparently built by a major Rotarian I the '30s and the fireplace has stones and coins from all over the world attached to it. We stopped in for dessert and the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Not cheap but worth a try.

Glad you stopped in for dessert! Yes, Kilauea Lodge was a YMCA in the 30's. Many of the benefactors were indeed Rotarians from all over the world. Built rock solid with materials from the area and imported Douglas Fir from California. The massive stone fireplace was paid for by fundraising efforts of YMCA youngsters. These youngsters spent summers and long... More

Menu is heavy on meat (think antelope and rabbit as well as beef) and cream sauces. Pricey (2 4-ounce frozen rock lobster tails $49!). Cocktails are tasty and generous; service is efficient and friendly. Baby back ribs were dry and scorched. Would not go back for dinner (reservations required by the way). Past its prime IMO.

Aloha! I agree...Kim makes superb cocktails and our servers are very professional. My intention on the 'atmosphere' was to create a sense of place and not just anywhere USA. I grew up on the East side of Hawaii island and you are correct! The art and the koa tables and the colorful placemats are from another era. Thank you for... More

We were visiting Volcano Park and stayed over. We had breakfast here. Excellent! My wife had a vegetable omelette that she raved about. I had a traditional American breakfast that was very good. Attentive staff, nice surroundings. Check out the fireplace.

Mahalo for your review. Yes the Fireplace of Friendship has an amazing history pulling in stories from the YMCA, Japanese craftsmen, and Volcanoes National Park. It truly is a gem! and, in cold mornings and evenings, keeps us very cozy! More

Went today for lunch. Stumbled across by taking older road. Very good food, incredibly warm and helpful waitress. A real find for us.
