Stumbled upon Cafe Ono with the kids, bought beautiful local art from the very beautiful, and peaceful art gallery, met Ira Ono, beautiful person, great artist, and creator of this great place. Loved this place so much, the wife and I went back for lunch, having what I will say was the best meal we had in two weeks on this island, and we had some pretty good local eats along the way. The vegetable lasagna and mushroom seaweed soup was simply amazing and popping with flavor, every bite was filled with love and freshness. This meal made us feel very much at home! This will be a stop every time we visit this island, not once, but at least twice. Folks do yourselves a favor; slow down time, meet great people, partake in what is prepared for you, and walk in a spiritual place filled with very obvious aloha spirit! Live it to the fullest, your soul will be better for it! Many blessings and peace to all who made our experience memorable at Cafe Ono and gallery… see you next year!!

Returning to Cafe Ono is always a happy pleasurable experience! Ira and his team continue to offer delicious, healthy & quality meals at reasonable prices - lovingly prepared and beautifully presented; whether take out or dine-in (call or email for reservations). Spending time at Volcano Garden Arts gardens and gallery is soothing and puts a smile in my heart. Mahalo nui loa for creating this oasis treat where all ages are warmly welcomed and find delightful surprises around every corner.

Ira was absolutely fantastic - welcomed us to his place and treated us like royalty! Sat at one of the tables in the back - had a real garden feel to it. Food was outstanding (had a homemade burrito special that was divine), and spent some time after lunch shopping in the store up front. If you’re visiting Volcanoes National Park, stop in and say hello to Ira - this is a “must visit” if you’re in the area!!

Since there wasn't any place to eat in the volcano park, we tried this restaurant. While the food was a good value. They were understaffed that day (maybe every day) so the whole process from sitting at a table, to getting an order in was slow. They even ran out of iced tea, which I thought was odd since my son got his hot tea. (I found out later than iced tea is made in advance as a concentrate. It is not a matter of brewing tea and putting it in ice.) However, I was not informed of this until we finished out meal and paid the bill. So I spend the whole meal stressing about when my iced tea was coming. In reality, this is an artist co-op shop with some food available. It is also very wheelchair unfriendly, despite the handicapped parking. Uneven ground, no ramps, restroom is not accessible, narrow gift shop aisles.

Stopped for soup and salad on a rainy day. The corn and potato chowder and the mushroom miso were both excellent as was the salad. They also had some heartier dishes for those looking for something heavier. Their hours are limited which is a shame as Volcano needs more restaurants with food of this quality.

Cafe Ono is only open for lunch on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and fills up quickly because it's so incredibly good. I'm not a vegetarian, but could easily become one if I could eat here every day. I had the artichoke and hummus panini, and added mozzarella cheese. It came with soup, salad, more bread, and guacamole chips. Everything was so delicious! There was a choice of vegetable curry or mushroom miso soup. My friend chose the first and I the second, and the flavors of both were amazing. The panini was equally delicious. Somehow I made room for homemade ice cream with brownie pieces, also delicious. The garden and the art gallery are a pleasure to stroll through and the work by local artists is an excellent value. I give this wonderful place my highest endorsement and was sorry to hear the owner, Ira Ono, wants to retire soon. He has created such a magnificent place!

Such a lovely place for lunch. You can eat outside in the garden and go to the art store afterward. There’s also some adorable bunnies nearby. The food itself was delicious, flavorful and pretty healthy. Completely vegetarian menu. Highly recommend enjoying a pot of tea with your lunch while enjoying the fresh air outside.

The food was so delicious, even for being vegetarian! It was raining when we went, and we ate inside of a greenhouse; a lovely experience. The ambiance of the restaurant and the tasty food is what elevated this experience for me as a tourist in Hawaii. This place is great for people who are vegetarian and looking for something good to eat (even very good for non vegetarians like me!). I recommend the lasagna (vegetarian), it was some of the best lasagna i’ve had. Go check this place out!

From the monument you arrive at Cafe Ono, you are treated as an honored guest! You are greeted by the owner, Ira Ono who provides an environment of peace and comfort while you enjoy creative dishes of vegetarian and vegan dishes. I had a panini made with artichokes and cheese, a large garden salad and cup of homemade soup. Everything was outstanding! The world is crazy, right now. I would suggest a retreat to Cafe Ono for some peace and sincerity!

Large portions, variety for people with food restrictions (vegan), super healthy and delicious!! I am vegan with a nut allergy and they accommodated to my restrictions. Staff are incredibly nice and they have an art shop inside that is full of cute items. Outside and inside patio, beautiful garden outside as well! We will be coming back tomorrow before we leave!

Food was very generous, but it was unusual that overfeeding/generosity was the norm. Clearly quantity compensates for quality. But here’s the kicker, the owner Ira, seemed to not be able to comprehend a biracial couple, and had to be reassured several times that yes, we were together. It’s awkward, regrettable, and ultimately, not worth your time

I honestly don't recall meeting these visitors. Being in a bi-racial relationship, myself, plus most of my staff is multiracial. I think they misconstrued the situation and for that I am truly sorry!

On vacation from Oahu, looking for a place we could have an experience and support the local businesses. This place was delightful. The food was flavorful, fresh and made with love. Everything was delicious. The garden seating had a tranquil feel to it. It was quiet and peaceful. The soups were enjoyable. Mexican vegan burrito was tasty with a nice crunch to the wrapper. It came with fresh vegetable salad, soup, bread and an unexpected brownie for dessert. My husband enjoyed his egg salad sandwich. Must go!

We picked up take out crustless quiche - so delicious and it comes with homemade soup and the best salad as well as chips and bread. It was enough for lunch and dinner and it was tasty and healthy! The carrot cake and chocolate brownie were to die for! No exaggeration-this restaurant is great. And the grounds are still as beautiful as ever.

This was the best food we’ve had in Hilo. Oh my goodness. Get the hot walnut brownie with walnuts for sure. (Not the one on top of ice cream. ) the food was fresh and organic, vegetarian and the scenery iln the garden where you eat is beautiful. Nice gift shop too with beautiful music playing. They don’t cook every day so call before you go. It is lunch only.
