Paolo's is definitely the restaurant in Pahoa to have a good Italian meal. BYOB, corkage fee reasonable, food very good, Paola, as always an eccentric character. Always enjoyable

Paolos bistro rescued our recent stay in Puna district. You have to know that Puna district is nothing for foodies. It is even difficult to buy decent food and I do not refer to supermarkets here. We went from market to market, even tried to get homemade organic things produced ( very few!) by the local community. So what a... More

I know everyone raves about this place but when you screw up, you take your lumps. I suppose the food was good but when you wait 1.5 hours for Baked Rigatoni and Chicken Marcella, taste become immaterial. We had reservations but found only 2 tables occupied when we arrived. Because they insist on an oral menu, we have to wait... More

Paolo's might be the best little bistro in all of Hawaii. Kitchen is steered by Paolo himself, a veteran master from Italy, who somehow wound-up in this small back water village near Hilo. Menu changes daily; and all offerings are worth sampling. He even makes his own home-made Tiramisu...plus is BYOB...only $5 corkage. If you're lucky, Paolo will step out... More

The fresh pasta dishes melt in the mouth and the sauces are divine. Like ciaopino? (seafood soup) Paolo's is the place!

The reviews on this restaurant are dead on. Personal service, excellent food, nice portions, and the small town atmosphere.

Wonderful Italian food that's genuinely Italian. Great atmosphere. Fun for a date or to meet with friends.

A small Italian restaurant on Main Street; definitely a bistro -- charming atmosphere and decor. Limited menu. Something you might least expect to find in Pahoa. The second best restaurant in Pahoa that we tried for dinner. Stuffed muscles appetizer was unique and delicious -- only 5-6 but stuffed full with a mixture of crab, fish and sausage (I think),... Paolo's is in every way the creation of a determined do it my way chef. The food suggests artistry as well as indifference. The battered premises is a reflection of rural west paniolo Pahoa. Chef Paolo's magical infusion of local produce creates surprise after surprise. Take the plunge and sit back and enjoy the proformance.

I've been here 3 times. In 2013, I was in Pahoa and Palol's was recommended by a local as being very good. I had the lamb which was amazing. We came back on that trip and once again loved it. I went again last night 2016 and was impressed as usual. I love the waiter/owner who makes a wonderful host... More
