I wanted to love this place since the reviews were so good. There were 7 of us in our group. We went during an off time but it was still pretty busy and the wait for our food was about 25 minutes. Everyone liked their's...fine. No one loved their's and no one had an interest in returning. We all ordered different things. It is in and easy access place close to Kona airport. We saw lots of other visitors with their luggage. About 1/2 the people eating there look to be locals so maybe we didn't order the right thing.More
whenever i am calorie deprived.....pine tree is great and i always go for loco moco and itsa 2000 calories of sustenance
On your way to/from KOA? First chance/Last chance to grab the classics! Had their Somen Chinese Chicken Salad and it was terrific .. .. Lots of locals & tourists plus loads of to-go orders had this place busy all afternoon!
We happened upon Pine Tree on our way back to our hotel. We actually stopped in the plaza to try the coffee place next door and found that it was closed. Not knowing what to eat we stumbled into Pine Tree. The menu was a...bit overwhelming not having looked at reviews prior but we ended up getting a few different thing. We were pretty happy with everything we tried. Loco moco: after having bland loco moco in Hilo, we were pleasantly surprised that the patty was seasoned well! It over all was very good. This made up for the not great loco moco from a couple days before. The fish sandwich: I picked grilled mahi mahi after asking what they suggested. It was simple but I enjoyed it very much. Note this was a sandwich only and didn't come with anything along with it. If you want to order something else as a side, be sure to look into it so you can add it onto your order. Friend Poke bowl: I've had poke many times before but have never seen a fried poke bowl. I was very surprised. It was simple but very tasty with rice, furikake, an aioli sauce, a pickled cucumber I believe and the fish. I am so glad we decided to order this. The Beef Stew: This very much reminded us of my mom's beef stew and maybe that's why we enjoyed it so much. It was also a large portion so it was easy to share. The Pulehu ribs: This was just ok. After trying so many other things, this was just plain. I didn't have any complaints but it just wasn't our favorite item. I can't recall what came with Mac salad but that also wasn't my favorite. We would definitely come here again if we were to visit the island. The place gets very busy so be aware that you might have to wait a while to get your food.More
This place wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. Food took some fair time being prepared, which granted, could be a good thing in that it's not sitting under a warming lamp waiting to be ordered. The teriaki chicken, was a very fair portion and...tasty, too much for my wife to eat. The Captain's Platter, was all batter covered pieces that wasn't really as enjoyable as I'd expected. The rice was dry. We ate outside which was really just on the large cement pad in the shopping center front. Don't know if we'll be back.More
This is an interesting place located in a strip mall. They serve plate lunch, fish and chips, various spam offerings, burgers, and other sandwiches You order at the counter, they call your number, and you pick it up. They have a few tables inside. The...food was descent.More
This seems like a place that needs to revamp its menu. They offer a bunch of different food but the 2 plates we ordered were bland and the worst we had on the island. Wife had Sweat Bread French toast, that was unremarkable, and I...had very average overdone pancakes with tiny portion of bacon and eggs. Disappointing quality and not worth it. Service was fine.More
This place stays open later than a lot of places on the island. we went there about 90 minutes to close and food was fresh and came out at a reasonable time. Fries, onions rings were crisp. Kalbi was perfect caramelized yet tender. We came...here twice in 3 days. Extremely close to KOA. Had I known the drive from the airport to Volcano didn't have many food options I would definitely grab a bite here first. menu has something for everyone.More
On our flight out to Hawaii, we overhead the person in the seat behind us telling someone that the Pine Tree Cafe had good food. AND HE WAS RIGHT! It's in a little strip mall and is very unpretentious. You're not going there for the...view or the fancy service. You're going there for a huge plate lunch/dinner or an outstanding burger that won't break your budget. This is where local workers go to get lunch. Beef teriyaki was super tender. Spicy garlic chicken was good, but could have been a little more tender. Burgers were good sized. French fries and onion rings were crisp and fresh. We went there three times!More
Quick pit stop from the beach to the octopus farm and everything was great. The Korean mixed plate had some of the best sweet breaded wings, and friends had a plate with onion rings that were crazy crispy!
Quick service and an amazing Spicy Tuna Poke Bowl. Great Teriyaki Chicken and yummy ribs! Just a really fun place to grab a quick lunch.
My wife and I were looking for a local place for dinner and found the Pine Tree Cafe! This is a definite stop for anyone visiting the Big Island. I had the Shoyu Chicken and my wife had the Korean Mixed Grill. Both were MORE...than filling. If you're looking for a good value meal, this is the place to go.More
There was a constant flow of customers while we were there. I had the teriyaki burger which is not actually a burger but meat strips. Was surprised to find tuna fish in the potato/macaroni salad. Another member of our party chose the Yoshino burger and...reported it as okay but probably wouldn't choose it again. The spicy garlic chicken was over fried but had a good taste. Plenty of parking and they were very covid aware with safety precautions.More
What a delicious breakfast! I had the loco moco, seriously tasty. It was a hamburger on fried rice with an over easy egg covered in gravy. Would absolutely recommend getting this! There's some spots to sit but looks like they do a lot of takeaways...too. Don't miss this spot when in Kona!More
