The restaurant is open and clean; great atmosphere. The food was very good. I had the Spicy Fish Tacos (which weren't too spicy). You get two tacos with grilled white fish and slaw, with the spicy sauce dribbled over it. It was quite tasty. Hubby had the Short Ribs and he said they were very good as well. The server... More

We booked Merriman's to celebrate our daughter's birthday. We wanted a fine restaurant while visiting the Big Island. We were not disappointed. We each had a variety of fishes including Ono, Mahi Mahi and the local Snapper. Each was cooked well and accompanied with a nice blend of sides. The creamed jalapeno mashed potatoes are very tasty. The only thing... More

My wife and I had dinner at Merriman's during a recent trip to the Big Island. It is one of our favorites on the Big Island and we go at least once on every trip there. The food was excellent (and has always been excellent on prior trips). Fresh local ingredients. A nice wine list, including by flights and by... More

Peter Merriman has pulled it off.... a superb meal sourced locally and served by people passionate about the restaurant and committed to extraordinary customer service. My Wife and I eat all over the world and it would be unusual to find a better dining experience.

We went here on a Sunday night, I was able to call a few hours ahead of time to get a 5:30 reservation. Since we were still dealing with the time change, that didn't feel too early for us (the other option was 8:30 and I would have fallen asleep!). We started with the goat cheese appetizer, it was nice... More

We stopped here for lunch. Great atmosphere and a nice choice of classic Hawaiian style dishes. Our server was friendly. The price for lunch was on the pricey side, but reasonable for two people.

Merriman's in Kamuela is still very good. I started with a tomato salad, which I found to be disappointing. Local Hawaiian tomatoes always look better than they feel or taste, and these were a bit mushy, as usual for local tomatoes here. The daily fish "catch of the day" was superb, a perfectly prepared piece of opakapaka, shrimp, spicy grits,... More

We dined at Merriman's in late December and it was as good as we remembered. The service was outstanding. The tomato and blue cheese salad was very good, but nothing memorable. The wok charred ahi entree was by far the best food item we ordered - better than the steak, which was itself very good. The ahi was melt in... More

This was the BEST restaurant we ate at on Hawaii - it simply was exquisite from start to finish - the cocktails, the food, the wine, the service! We split a caesar salad, the Kalua pork quesadilla, and the local beef tenderloin. I would eat ANYTHING on the menu and am only disappointed we came here on our last night... More

Admittedly we came to dinner for the fresh fish--and I don't mean ahi, mahi mahi or ono, which you can get elsewhere. Merriman's in Waimea, Big Island is quite expensive but does not offer the fish selection of its sister on Kauai, to which we return repeatedly. So for us, it was not a great value. Two drinks and two... More
