This restaurant never fails every time I eat there. I go at least once a month. Their food is fast, fresh, delicious and worth the price!

Sunlight Cafe is one of Hilo's best kept secrets. Tucked away in the old Hilo Shopping Center, the restaurant offers top quality food at very reasonable prices. The teishoku combinations allow you to choose from dishes such as shrimp and vegetable tempura, tonkatsu, chicken katsu, sashimi, beef teriyaki, and other classic Japanese dishes. The restaurant is quaint and very clean.... More

My son treated my lady friend Kersten and me to a meal at the Sunlight to celebrate renting his first apartment. It proved a wonderful choice. The Sunlight is a small Japanese-style restaurant that practices the Japanese aesthetic to perfection. My Ozen-style meal started with a fragrant and tasty bowl of Miso soup, and only got better from there. My... More

I took my wife there for an anniversary lunch. There were only 2 or 3 tables that had customers. At one table there was a 10 year old girl doing her homework, when she saw us she went into the back to get somebody. When that person finally came out it seemed like all she did was motioned for us... More

If you see the kitchen where they prepare the food, that will make you want to throw up. Food was greasy, bland, and looked like a hot mess. Makes Panda Express look like a gourmet! Expensive for the quality of food. Very unsanitary! Rude staff. Did not refill my water! Needless to say a penny tip was given for her... More

Stopped by for lunch break and the food is good. We ordered the steak and shrimp and loco moco. Next time we go, we will try whats on ala cart. We got our food fast, and enjoyed our lunch break. I've heard that the quality and service of their food is pretty good, but the food usually runs out by... More

Food runs out by 2 pm. The best dish is LONG RICE, A CARRYOVER FROM the Korean restaurant that retired elsewhere in the mall. Menu needs work, hungry eaters like to order VAlue meals. We ordered the 12 oz steak, another popular dish. This too was overdone and salty. Not everyone loves salt. And bloody rare means undercooked. Give the... More

LOVED the ambiance of this little but extremely comfortable restaurant! We found the dinner menu to be somewhat elegant yet casual dress fits for the restaurant. It is a small restaurant so you don't it was intimate and not overly loud which we like.

it was my first time eating here, so I had some expectations. ordered the tonkatsu and misoyaki butterfish combo. it came with miso soup. the fish was covered in sauce and boiled. it was heavily covered in sauce and there were many bones in the fish. the tonkatsu was nicely fried, but the dipping sauce had a fishy and strong...
