The famous Suisan Fish Market is located on the waterfront in Hilo, and they offer the best tasting poke on the Island :)). It’s always super fresh, made with just caught fish delivered at their dock... don’t worry about the crowds, as the service is friendly and quick! You can enjoy your purchases at the outdoor tables, or take them to the nearby park... definitely worth checking out when you’re in Hilo!

This famous fish market always serves freshest fish. Shipment of fish is delivered at the back of the store. which is directly at the bay.
Poke is a must, and we can pick any variety. They all are very fresh and delicious. Because we did not immediately, the rice turned hard.

We had read and heard about Suisan Fish Market and knew we had to go. We knew that it can get crowded and parking can be tough. We ended up parking on the closest side street next to the park. Yep, the inside is what you can expect of a fish market but things are quite orderly and they have many types of fish to choose from. Instead of getting a poke bowl or salad we just went with the protein and ordered 2 different types of poke. I didn't need to waste my money on carbs anyway. As this was 11 months ago I don't remember what type of fish we got, but whatever we did get was excellent.

Hands down the best poke we tried in Hawaii (even compared to Ono Poke in Honolulu and Da Poke Shop in Kona).
I have lived in Japan in the past, and have had a fair amount of high quality fish, and Suisan is hands down had the best poke I've ever tried. The ahi tuna cuts were large, flavored so simply but beautifully, and the fish quality was incredibly fatty and buttery. We died and went to heaven trying this poke. The spicy ahi tuna was our favorite, but every dish they had down to the edamame and sides, were incredible.
These folks really understand flavors, fish quality, and beauty in simplicity with high quality. Expect a wait, and go early because they do completely sell out in the afternoon.

Went around 12 for lunch and they were already out of hamachi and salmon, so we opted for spicy ahi and honey garlic ahi. For sides we got spicy crab salad and edamame. My husband and I shared a 2 entree 2 side plate and this was plenty for us. The spicy ahi was amazing as was the crab salad. My hubby loved the honey garlic ahi. Just wish they would plan better and have more hamachi and salmon prepared especially seeing as they are incredibly popular options!

To make it clear from the outset, this is not a diner or restaurant. You can buy either a poke bowl or different types of seafood mixes to take away. The stuff is fresh and tasty, so nothing to criticise here, but the place looks horrible and service is mediocre at best. No atmosphere. Given the prices they charge, you could definitely expect more.

We are on a multi-island poke' quest (see our other posts) and are wondering if we can continue. Fresh, high quality fish and perfect seasonings. There could be no better place than this, Also had some room for ono - wow. And if the highest quality wasn't enough, the prices are the lowest we have seen. Take it from someone who has pursued the ultimate poke' in many places. If you are also a fan, you must, absolutely must come here.

This was the best poke I have ever had. We are from Seattle so no stranger to fresh seafood but this poke blew my mind. Get the spicy ahi and don’t forget the lobster salad. Worth the drive over to Hilo YOU WILL NOT REGRET THIS.

This place was at the top of my list to visit while in Hilo. We arrived about an hour before closing and found that they were mostly sold out of the Poke Fish. We did not end up eating here because of the lack of options that were left. They had outdoor seating but sitting there was a very angry man who appeared to be on drugs beating up a trash can with a metal rod. Just keep your eyes out. Parking is on the street.

Great location down in Hilo bay by park, golf course and hotels. Great to pick up some poke and go grab a seat in park and enjoy Hilo bay. I got spicy poke and a aloha maid drink and enjoyed the area. There fresh fish looked amazing as well but did not get any.

While an actual fish market, you are also able to purchase poke and bowls ready to eat. The fish is fresh and flavorful and there are several varieties of poke available.

We came here out of curiosity since it was our first trip to Hilo. Disappointed to see very few seafood choices and the prices are very expensive

Heard that this was THE place to go for the best Poke on Big Island and the queue outside certainly confirmed that! Amazing selection of seafood choices and efficiently run place. We tried ahi, octopus and salmon - all delicious.
