My wife and I stopped here for lunch following a visit to the town of Hawi. We enjoyed the upstairs art gallery while waiting for the restaurant to open. The efficient staff gave us a nice quiet table in a little nook with a very cool old lamp by the table. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the huge serving pork and... More

Maybe my expectations were a little high, maybe didn't order the right stuff, but I found the food to be just average. Bland for my taste. I liked the polenta, but the fish special was not flavorful. The service was efficient, very friendly. The decor was casual, quirky, felt historic. The gallery upstairs not anything special.

Well... what can I say? The special was tortilla crusted fresh fish with a homemade salsa of all local, organic produce: fresh tomatoes, corn and sweet onions flavored with cilantro and lime. We served it as a stacked salad over organic greens with rice and topped it with with chipotle sour cream. Maybe we should have tried harder to overpower... More

Enjoyed fresh food. Ono was perfectly cooked. Pulled pork smokey and tasty. Burger had lots of flavor. Highly recommend the drive. Hawi is a wonderful place.

We visit Bamboo every time we vacation on the Big Island. We have celebrated engagements and graduations at this wonderful restaurant. Can't wait until next trip!

Family of 5 including 3 adult kids stopped in for dinner. Local catch was Ono, grilled on a bed of local greens and was perfect. Fun little store and art gallery to browse while cock tailing. Wait staff was fantastic - my wife has a peanut allergy and they went above and beyond to be sure that no peanut oil... More

We stopped here on our way back from the drive up the north shore. When we sat down our table was in a corner with no air circulation and it was very warm. Our waitress quickly found us another table close to a window and a breeze. We enjoyed the service, the beer, and the food. The atmosphere was eclectic... More

We have eaten here many times and this time we were disappointed. The meal was fair. The decor tired. Service was casual but good. $$$

Ahhh... well.. this is one of those "ya can't please 'em all" situations. I think. 4 out of 5 people just below her here on Trip Advisor say the prices are affordable or reasonable and she thinks it's SUPER expensive. Who's right? (We never ignore these comments, though and will pay attention.) I sure wish we could "afford" to redecorate... More

We stopped in Hawi just to check it out and decided on lunch at Bamboo Restaurant. Service was excellent, Food was good, and prices were affordable. The building itself provides a wonderful trip back through time and really reminds you of Hawaii of yesteryear.

OK, so this one has me flummoxed. Our service is excellent, the food is good, the prices are affordable and the building is a wonderful trip through yesteryear. And all this makes us "Average"?? Criminey, what would RSmith want for a restaurant to be good or excellent? Go figure. More

Excellent quality food, wide variety. Wondered what all the hype was about and it's all accurate. Staff are fun, food is really good.

I had last been to Bamboo about 10 years ago, for dinner with family. It was a Wonderful experience, the food, service and atmosphere couldn't have been better. Fast forward to last week, when my wife & I and two other couples drove up from Mauna Lani for lunch, after a morning round of golf in Waikoloa. Upon arrival we... More
