The lady at the front desk of our hotel highly recommended this steakhouse. We were quite pleased she did because the service was immediate, the drinks and wine excellent and our steaks perfectly done. Too bad we were here for only one night ..... I as read to go back the next night.

Located in a restored 1850's officers quarters (Fort Stevens) built to protect the Oregon Trail. Don't let the exterior fool you. The inside is loaded with amazing historical photos, nice people and good food. Visiting Laramie and missing this place would be a mistake.

Great food - grass fed beef is the best. Service is best you can ask for. Manager makes the rounds in the best possible way. Our server won our hearts. Try the mushroom appetizer. I'd make this a regular if I lived here.

Delightful dinner! My husband and I split a Rough Rider twin tenderloin plate and it was incredibly delicious. My husband had a wedge salad with bacon and blue cheese dressing and he raved about it. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Our excellent waitress was Sandra. Manager stopped by our table. Will definitely return when we travel through Laramie again.

Excellent atmosphere/historic decorations and a great meal. Very friendly staff and a meal cooked exactly as we requested. This is only a short drive from Laramie but worth the trip if you're looking for a good steak meal.

We had dinner at The Cavalryman while visiting friends in Laramie. The service was as friendly as could be. Great steaks, cooked to perfection, and flavorful, well-prepared vegetables made for a fine dinner.

After travelling across the country, The Cavalryman was exactly what we wanted not only for its food but also for its history and charm. Our waitress Amanda, originally from Texas, was phenomenal--attentive, knowledgeable, and amicable. She definitely gave us good recommendations and served us wonderful food, but even more importantly she helped us to learn about the area we are... More

Went to eat here on a Saturday night, was not crowded at all for a Sat. Staff was great! Beef Steaks were awesome. Buffalo steak was great tasting but very very chewy. Wait was a little long for some, took our party of 4 - 1.75 hrs from entry to leaving. Grounds need some attention as well as outside. Saw... More

The steaks are excellent here. All steaks are from local farms and you can taste the difference! Their filet is tender and juicy and my mother really loved the New York strip. The entrees are also generously portioned with salad/soup, veggies, and potato/rice included. Don't skimp on dessert either: the bread pudding is heavenly. Our waitress, Brandi, was very kind... We ate there Easter Sunday evening after a day of skiing. We both had steaks and they were excellent and cooked to our degree of doneness. I Graduated from UW in the 1980's and this was the place you hoped your parents or roommates parents took you out to eat at. It did not disappoint.

Description
The Cavalryman Steakhouse is located on the grounds of historic Fort Sanders, established in July of 1866. In its heyday, the Fort Sanders Military Reservation protected the Overland and Lodgepole Creek emigrant routes, the Denver-Salt Lake City stage route, and the construction crews for the Union Pacific Railroad. Ruins of the fort’s powder keg are visible just southwest of the restaurant’s main building. The Cavalryman building was constructed in 1925 to serve as the clubhouse for the local country club. Just to the east, remnants of the nine-hole golf course can still be found.
