Service was slow going to nonexistent. It took a almost an hour for our entire party to receive our drinks. I had to ask 3 times for cream for my coffee. Whilst the appetizer & salads came out about a half hour after placing our orders, after 2.5 hours we still had no food. We told the management that being... More

We stopped here for a guys night out when we were going to Colorado hunting. I had a very good steak that night and the lady that was serving our table was very good and attentive to the group of nine of us. They have very good steaks here and I am sort of fussy about my steak, being raised... More

We are Denver residents and frequent visitors to Laramie to watch college football. We have had many great meals at the local non-chain restaurants. The four of us looked forward to enjoying a steak tonight after a big win today and we COULD NOT be more disappointed with our experience at the Cavalryman. Whatever else you do in Laramie, do... Great place. Excellent service by Molly. My ribeye was perfect and French onion soup may be the best I've had.

After the U of W Literacy Conference, we got to sit together and visit over a nice steak dinner. Wyoming poet laureate Eugene Gagliano did a reading for us--charming!

All alone on the south side of town, Cavalryman is worth the drive on Hwy 287. The interior is very comfortable with a western feel and the people have the hospitable personality to go with it. The steaks we had (rib eye and prime rib) were good, but not of the quality you find at the higher end city restaurants.... More

Visiting from Florida for a college tour. Great local food. Casual attire. Friendly service. We had the 7 oz bacon wrapped filet. Cooked perfectly!

We lived in Laramie from 1972-74 and occasionally ate at the Cavalryman for special occasions and work celebrations. When we had a job candidate in for an extended interview, we would almost always take him/her to the Cavalryman for dinner. The longevity of the place is probably the best evidence of its ability to deliver a good dining experience. Although... More

Just a quick heads up if you're going to Laramie and want a top quality dinner house. Brennan was a most accommodating host and the staff were a good reflection of his leadership. Excellent food, good drinks, a little pricey but worth it.

We arrived at 5:45 pm and we're seated immediately. There were only a few patrons in the place. We ordered and waited 2 1/2 hours to get the food. When it arrived it was cool and fair. The prime rib was horrible. My steak was cold. Vegetables were cold. We ordered nothing unusual just from the menu. The service was... More

Description
The Cavalryman Steakhouse is located on the grounds of historic Fort Sanders, established in July of 1866. In its heyday, the Fort Sanders Military Reservation protected the Overland and Lodgepole Creek emigrant routes, the Denver-Salt Lake City stage route, and the construction crews for the Union Pacific Railroad. Ruins of the fort’s powder keg are visible just southwest of the restaurant’s main building. The Cavalryman building was constructed in 1925 to serve as the clubhouse for the local country club. Just to the east, remnants of the nine-hole golf course can still be found.
